Lit circle reflection

Before meeting with your group each day you are going to write a reflection post on the section you have read for that meeting. Within an 8 minute time frame you should write as much as you can about the most current section. Do not stop writing. Write whatever comes to mind.

When writing, complete the following:

-Write a brief recap (summary) of what happened in that section

-Are you enjoying the book? why or why not? Do not simply say no or yes. Explain why.

-What stood out to you the most in this section?

-What surprised you?

-Do you have any questions?

-Does this book or section connect to anything else in your life or experience?

Lit circle reflection

Count the number of words in your reflection, put that number after the reflection with a circle around it. The goal is to write at least 100 words per summary.

Burning Questions

Skip a line after your reflection, then:

  • Write a level 2 question from last night’s reading, and
  • Write a level 3 question from last night’s reading.

You do not need to answer the question in written form. You will use the questions for discussion in your group, so ask a question you really want to talk about.

Lit. Circle Homework: Theme

What are two themes in your novel?

(Write a theme as a sentence. See example below.)

For example: In To Kill A Mockingbird, a theme would not be “adversity”.

Instead, write a sentence…

People show a great capacity for handling adversity when faced with difficult challenges.

The theme would not be “loneliness”.

Instead, write a sentence…

People become desperate in their loneliness.

Write two themes on your Lit circle homework and get them approved.
