DIRECTIONS: You are going to form 2 circles (one inside and one outside) as you can see in the picture so that you and your pair can face each other. You are going to discuss the question that I am going to ask you with your partner by taking turns. When I say “Rotate,” students on the outside will move one space to the right so they are sitting in front of a new person. Each time I ask a new question, the process is going to be repeated. At the end of the activity, we are going to have a whole class discussion. This is a great opportunity to share your ideas with others and hear new ideas that you haven’t thought of before starting doing your project, so use your time wisely.

PART 1 WRITING A BIOGRAPHY
YOUR TASK: You are going to make a foldable lapbook about Malala by completing all the graphic organizers in this HyperDoc and by writing a biography of her as the final task. Your ideas in the graphic organizers will help you write your version of Malala’s biography, so be sure to prepare them carefully.
Here is your first task: Complete the Point of View Graphic Organizer. Then, complete the Influences Handout your teacher is going to give you.

HOW TO WRITE A BIOGRAPHY
A biography is someone’s life story, written in the third person in chronological order. You can use Present, Past, and Future tenses.
Biographies are the one genre that can open your eyes and hearts to people who have made a difference in the world. You can learn about lives and eras of both the past and present. You can learn many interesting facts they do not know about people when they explore biographies.
Your mission is to write one that can influence your readers’ thinking and inspire them to make positive contributions to the global community.

HOW TO WRITE A BIOGRAPHY
You are going to write the biography of Malala by using all the information you have learned and the graphic organizers you have prepared so far. Use your sources effectively and provide evidence from them when necessary.
Your goal as a biographer is to share a story of Malala’s life in an appealing way that will inspire others. All types of biographical writing can give you a better understanding of the people and the world around you. By writing Malala’s biography, you will understand her impact on the world and on you better.

HOW TO WRITE A BIOGRAPHY
The evidence gained from research in order to write a biography can include a person’s words, actions, journals, reactions, related books, interviews with friends, relatives, and enemies. The graphic organizers and the other tasks you have completed so far can help you gather and organize this information. If you think you need more sources, please check the EXTEND page on slide 40 and visit our school library. Plan your biography according to the information in the next two slides and by using this graphic organizer .

Paragraph 1: Introduction
Write an introduction that grabs the reader’s attention and explains whom you are writing about.
Paragraph 2: Provide information about Malala’s childhood. Include the details that you think are the most interesting and important.
Paragraph 3: Provide information about Malala’s talents and accomplishments. How has she overcome obstacles and dealt with challenges in her life's journey? How has she achieved her goals? Which events changed her life? What are her character traits? Give evidence.

Paragraph 4: Conclusion
Write a conclusion that includes your opinion about why it is important to learn about Malala. What makes her unique? What kind of effect did she have on the world? What can we learn from her accomplishments? How can the example of her accomplishments help us achieve our own dreams? How did they impact you?
Read each paragraph carefully before you write your final draft. Make sure that what you have written is clear and easy to understand. Check your spelling and punctuation. Use this rubric and checklist before writing and while editing and revising your first draft.

Each of us has role models who have inspired us: our heroes. They may not be famous but they are extraordinary leaders who have helped shape our world. They have helped us define, develop, and live by values such as kindness, generosity, perseverance, forgiveness and peace.
For this project, your first task is to identify your hero. While doing this, try not to choose a celebrity, but someone who inspired you with the values you stand by and who helped you be who you are today. Please keep in mind that celebrities attract our curiosity while real heroes send us to the source of their vision and dreams.
