Who is the Arizona Humane Society?

• Founded in 1957
• Mission is to save the most vulnerable animals and enrich the lives of pets and people
• Began as a small shelter established by a compassionate group of volunteers
• Grown to become the state’s largest animal welfare and protection agency, as well as the state’s designated responder for animals in distress during natural disasters
• Serves all of Maricopa County
• Two campuses in the Valley: Sunnyslope Campus and Nina Mason Pulliam Campus for Compassion

We Are AHS

Dr. Steve Hansen, President & CEO

​

• Spent over 16 years in the Animal Protection space with non-profits.� 
• Served as Director of Veterinary Research and Support for Wellmark International.�
• Practiced clinical veterinary medicine in Houston and Chicago.�
• Dr. Hansen received his BS and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from Iowa State University and received an MS and MBA from the University of Illinois.�
• Dr. Hansen is board certified by the American College of Animal Welfare and the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology.

How we accomplish our mission

• Safety Net for Valley’s Most Vulnerable Pets. Our comprehensive medical, behavioral rehabilitation, surrender intervention and spay/neuter initiatives saved an additional 100,000 lives over the last six years.

​

• Ethical No-Kill Philosophy. We never euthanize pets for space or length of time.

​

• Life-saving Programs. Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™, Mutternity Suites, Kitten Nursery, Bottle Baby Kitten ICU, and Parvo Puppy ICU save the lives of pets routinely euthanized in shelters.

• Keeping Pets in Homes. Our Pet Resource Center and veterinary clinics connect pet owners with affordable medical, behavior, and support services to help keep pets and people together.

• Justice for Abused Animals. We partner with law enforcement to conduct thousands of cruelty investigations.

Emergency Animal Medical Technicians

• The Arizona Humane Society EAMTs perform almost 8,000 cruelty investigations every year

​

• Rescued over 4,000 sick and injured animals

​

• Provide life-saving care on the scene before transporting the distressed animals to our Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital ™ for veterinary care.

​

Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™

• Over 12,000 homeless pets receive lifesaving care in our trauma hospital every year.

​

• Established in 1996, this hospital is an accredited American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) facility located at our Sunnyslope Campus.

​

• The Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™ is the largest shelter-based trauma center for homeless animals in the Southwest.

​

• Second Chance is dedicated to providing veterinary care for animals with nowhere else to turn.

​

• Has a staff of more than 30 veterinary medical professionals, including veterinarians, certified veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants and animal care specialists.

Kitten Nursery / Bottle Baby ICU

• The AHS Kitten Nursery and Bottle Baby Kitten ICU helps care for our tiniest feline friends during kitten season, when our shelters are overflowing with adorable kittens.

​

• These little kittens range from newborns— who require 24-hour care by our compassionate staff and volunteers—to older kittens who need socialization while they gain weight in preparation for finding their forever homes.

​

• Between staffing, medical care, vaccinations, toys, litter, food, and other supplies, it costs more than $500,000 a year to operate the Kitten Nursery and Bottle Baby Kitten ICU.

​

• Last year, we were able to care for more than 2,000 kittens thanks to our community’s support.

​

• This program save the lives of pets routinely euthanized in shelters

​

Puppy Parvo ICU

• Parvo, a highly-contagious, often fatal, viral disease in puppies and unvaccinated adult dogs has long been considered an untreatable and challenging disease to treat within animal shelters throughout the country.

​

• AHS opened the state’s largest parvo treatment center. Last year, the Parvo Puppy ICU treated 425 puppies and dogs.

​

• Life-saving programs like our Parvo Puppy ICU help us to save the lives of pets routinely euthanized in shelters.

Mutternity Suites

• In the event, foster homes are unavailable, Mutternity Suites offer a secondary option and meets the needs of our pregnant and nursing mothers.

​

• Offers a quiet, contained place for mothers to give birth with medical supervision.

​

• Last year, 425 moms and puppies were cared for in our Mutternity Suites.

​

Campaign Information

• Ask level: $30 per month

​

• Donations are withdrawn on your anniversary date of your initial gift, each month, quarter or year.

​

• AHS is a local nonprofit, not affiliated with other Humane Societies, and dependent on private donations to fund our work

​

• When you make a gift to the Arizona Humane Society, you are saving lives of homeless pets in our community

​

• We rely primarily on donations to care for our homeless pets

​

• It costs an average of more than $1,000 to care for each pet who enters our shelter.

​

Basic Close/Ask

• That's why we are getting everyone on board with our as a constant companion!

​

• Most people opt to do our quarterly donation, at $90 every 3 months or our super heroes do an annual donation, getting it all done at one time, then theres the monthly option.

• And of course, all donations are 100% tax-deductible

What makes a valid donation?

• Donor must be 25 years old or older
• Donor lives in the state of Arizona
• No out of state monthly donors can be accepted
• Donor must provide two points of contact
• Valid email address
• Valid phone number
• Donor address must be billing address
• If different than mailing address, take note of it and notify your manager immediately so we can notify the AZHS to update their profile in their system with those details
