The hand works well as a model hand, however for a real time fitted prosthetic there would need to make some changes to connect it comfortably to an amputees forearm.

Solidworks

  1. Create Finger
  2. Create Palm - 2 Sides
    1. Work Smoothly
    2. Fishing wire check
  3. Attach Rest of fingers
    • Fishing wire
  4. Build + Attach thumb

Electronics

  1. Servo -> Finger connection
  2. Servo -> Thumb connection
  3. Code to on/off switch
  4. Code to EMG sensor
  • People can lose limbs in
    • Accidents
    • Military service
    • At Birth
  • This can hinder abilities to function in society
  • Give people the functionality of a working hand
    • Grab/let go
    • Pick up/ grip strength
  • Helps people participate in societal activities, and restores ability to use missing limb.
  • The decision was to create a prototype prosthetic to act as a model for the EMG activated prosthetic hand. The name of this project, the Iron Man Hand.
  • Must be able to open/close at will
  • Must use solidworks and arduinos to reach our goal
  • Utilize EMG Sensor as ON/OFF switch
  • 3D printer
  • Screws & Springs
  • (3) 360 Servo Motors
  • Fishing line or string
  • Arduino Uno R3 Board
  • Mini Breadboard
  • 2 - 9V batteries
  • Solder gun
  • EMG sensor
  • EMG sensor wires
  • EMG sensor patches
  • Solidworks program
  • Breadboard wires
  • Spray Paint

In the Test and Evaluate stage, there was multiple design changes. As seen in the pictures in the middle, the hand design and servos changed a lot to get to the final design. There was also issues with the code and servos.

  • Better joint mobility
  • Make design customizable
    • Size changes for the customer
  • Build so wrist has mobility
  • Increase motor torque so hand strength is better
  • Add fingerprint structure for better grip
    • Rubber or Foam cushion possibility
