Scratch Directions for Choose Your Own Adventure Story
1. Create and name your file
2. Download all your backgrounds
3. Create your Title Page
Name your page “title page”
To edit, press “Convert to Vector” button! You need to do this before you add text.
4. Size your image
5. Type title and text
4. Upload your other pages.

5. Create your Buttons
6. Make a main button. This will be the first button (on the bottom of your title page. Title it “continue”)
7. Name & position your sprite
Name your Sprite Title Page
Move your button where you want it
8. Code your Sprite/Continue button
For EVERY other page you must HIDE this sprite
This is the code for your sprite to show on this page
This is the code that specifies what page to go to when this sprite is clicked
9. Copy your sprite for Page 1
Two-finger click on the “Continue” Sprite and DUPLICATE it
Two-finger click on the “Continue” Sprite and DUPLICATE it. If you have 2 buttons on that page, call them: Pg 1 a

10. Name your Page 1 button after the choice
This is my first page
I have 2 buttons-
“Road” and “woods”
11. Update your Code for the Page 1 button
Switch the backdrops to SHOW
Switch the backdrops to HIDE
Type new title for the other button on this page.
12. Name your Page 1a button after the other choice
REPEAT THE PROCESS FOR EACH BUTTON. Name them after the page they are on.
13. Record your Narratives
All of your sound files will be attached to the BACKDROPS.
Click on the thumbnail of your backdrop in your STAGE (bottom right side.)
Click on your backdrops tab.
Select your title page so it shows in your stage area.
14. Record your Narratives
Click on your sound tab
Select Recordx
You should still be able to see your screen so you can read it while recording.
After you record, make sure you
delete any “dead” space at the
beginning of your recording
15. Make sure you name your recording after the PAGE it is on. Record your other pages and name them accordingly.

16. Code your Voiceovers
Click on your CODE tab. You should still be on the “stage”. (NOT the sprites) Follow the code below. Each backdrop should match with its voiceover.
16. Add any ambient noises
Ambient noises are like birds chirping or planes flying overhead.
They can play in the background. BUT- sometimes these files are large and can cause Scratch to crash without saving your work.

Or google drive, search “mp3 files”
Search for WAV files that are UNDER a minute. (If they are longer, often, Scratch will NOT save.)
After each sound file you add- make sure to press FILE, SAVE NOw.
