How is APS protecting your students?

With state-of-the-art systems designed with your students’ safety and security in mind.

  • Firewall filtering
    • Blocking access to material that is deemed adult content or violent in nature, in addition to social media apps that are deemed disruptive like TikTok and Facebook.
  • Google Workspace
    • Restricts the ability for elementary and middle school aged children to send or receive email from outside the aurorak12.org domain.

With state-of-the-art systems designed with your students’ safety and security in mind.

  • ManagedMethods
    • Works within the Google Workspace to block malware downloads and alert to adult or violent images being saved on student Google Drives or being sent or delivered via their aurorak12.org email addresses.
  • GoGuardian
    • Classroom level monitoring. Teachers/staff are able to view and manage their students’ APS Chromebooks to ensure students are staying on track in class.

  • Linewize - Managed in partnership with APS IT, Security, and Mental Health
    • Keystroke monitor for all APS student devices. Monitors for keywords related to suicide, bullying, sexual content, violence, drugs and alcohol, then uses AI to determine risk and alerts Admin and/or Security based on risk level. High-risk situations, including imminent self-harm and/or violence triggers an immediate call to Aurora Police Department, APS Security, and site Administration.

If you’re struggling with the concept of parental controls, try thinking of it this way:

You probably wouldn’t let your child traipse around the city on their own, talking to strangers; however, allowing them to roam around the internet unsupervised is equally risky. Monitoring their behavior online is the same as keeping an eye on them offline.

ACHS School Safety & Support

  • 6 Campus Monitor - Throughout the building located in areas of the building at all times. Keep area safe and keep students in class.

  • 4 Deans of Culture - Throughout the building and are working with individual students, group of students, or entire grade levels of students to promote making good choice and behaving in and out of classes.

  • 2 Attendance Liaison & Family Liaison - In the building to communicate with parents.

  • Infinite Campus (Parent Portal) - Track students attendance and communicate to parents.

  • 2 School Resource Officers (S.R.O’s) APD who are attached to school

School Safety & Support

  • During Lunch - 9th & 10th grade students stay in the cafeteria to eat. Students know when lunch is over and know when they must return back to class.

  • After lunch, and throughout the day, we have (2) golf carts that we use to drive around the neighborhood to encourage students to come to school.

  • During passing Periods - All staff members/adults are in the hallways encouraging students to get to class on time.

  • Once Class has begun, Campus Monitors sweep the hallways to ensure students are in class.

  • Nome Park during school hours off limit.

  • Students need to stay on campus during school day.

  • Students can receive a Ticket from SRO’s if they are found on the Church property. School consequences can be given if found at Nome Park.
