Afternoon Preliminary Performances at Irondale H.S.

Evening Finals Performances at Historic Goodrich Field, Anoka

2 of 14

Dear Participants, Spectators, and Alumni,

Welcome to historic Goodrich Field and the finals of the Knight Tornado Classic! Thank you for spending your evening with us—we are thrilled to have you here.

Tonight marks an exciting milestone as we partner with our friends at Irondale High School to present this new prelims/finals format. Bringing our communities together gives these talented ensembles the opportunity to receive constructive feedback from a premier panel of adjudicators, while performing on two great stages in a single day.

Following a remarkable afternoon of preliminary competition judged by class level, we are proud to host tonight’s open class finals under the lights.

Marching band is a uniquely demanding and rewarding activity where every individual plays an essential role in the collective performance. The discipline, artistry, teamwork, and passion these performers have poured into their shows will be on full display this evening.

While competition motivates bands to strive for their highest potential, the true heart of this activity lies in the joy of performance, mutual respect, and the shared pursuit of excellence.

An event of this scale would not be possible without an incredible community of support. We extend our deepest gratitude to the visiting bands, their families, and devoted fans who traveled to support these students.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the Anoka Band Boosters, our alumni, parent volunteers, and the Anoka-Hennepin School District for their tireless dedication and support. We would also like to recognize the Anoka High School administration, activities department, and our dedicated custodial and setup crew volunteers for preparing Goodrich Field for this showcase.

Thank you for being here to cheer on these outstanding performers.

Enjoy the show!

Sincerely,

Mr. Timothy Hauser

How are the bands scored?

This marching band competition uses the Youth in Music Adjudication Sheets. There are six judges evaluating each performance. Each judge evaluates one aspect of the performance and is responsible for a portion of the final score. A total of 100 points are possible for each marching band. Judges use the following criteria to compare the bands:

Music Performance = 20 points

Evaluate woodwind and brass sections, as well as wind ensemble, as a whole, for both musicality and technique.

Visual Performance = 20 points

Evaluate marching of band members for both accuracy and definition, and technique.

Music General Effect = 20 points

With musical emphasis, evaluate all musical performers (woodwinds, brass, and percussion) and their involvement in total program, complemented by visual roles and coordination of visual elements. Consider both repertoire and showmanship.

Visual General Effect = 20 points

With visual emphasis, evaluate ALL performers and their involvement in total programs, complementary to musical roles and coordination of musical elements. Consider both repertoire and showmanship.

Percussion = 10 points

Evaluate TOTAL percussion ensemble for both musicality and enhancement, and technique.

Color Guard = 10 points

Evaluate all color guard and auxiliary performers for both program content and achievement.

Osseo Marching Band is proud to present our 2026 show, “A Tangled Web” written and arranged by Jason Nitsch. “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” opens our show in a haunting and mysterious fashion and is interwoven with the music of Nitsch, Grieg and Mozart to help create the eerie yet creative process of weaving the web. Spider webs are beautiful when the light hits it right but can also be creepy when found unexpectedly. The real mystery is how the spider creates each web and we hope our show entices all your curiosity as we unfold the web and its inventor.

Rooted in humanity's timeless drive to conquer the unknown, the journey of the mountain climber is a testament to endurance, ambition, and the relentless pull of the horizon. Rising sharply from the earth, the peak stands as both a majestic siren and an unyielding adversary—a place where thin air, brutal elements, and dizzying heights test the limits of body and spirit. Come join the Marching Huskies in their 2026 show, "The Ascent". The show features “The Impossible Dream” from The Man of La Mancha, Kevin Day’s “Summit” and Rossano Gallante’s “Mount Everest”.

Our 2026 show, Opposites, explores the idea that balance is necessary in every aspect of music and life. Inspired by the concept of Yin and Yang, the show examines the relationship between opposing forces and the idea that one cannot truly exist without the other.

Opposites explores contrasts such as light and dark, tension and release, chaos and order, strength and vulnerability, and movement and stillness. These opposing elements come together to create balance, with each side giving meaning and purpose to the other.

Musically and visually, the show is designed to provide a wide variety of experiences while maintaining a strong conceptual thread. Opposites offers musical depth, emotional contrast, visual variety, and pure entertainment value, creating a performance that challenges our students while engaging our audience.

At its core, Opposites reminds us that balance does not come from eliminating differences—it comes from understanding how opposing forces can exist together.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed so we “Don’t Jinx It!” We hope you “Get Lucky” and manage to avoid stepping on a yardline or you might break someone’s back! Tuba soloist Jayceon Flowers is here to bring us a little extra good fortune! Next up is a piano solo by Ayo Olawore playing with “Mirrors” - but be careful…everyone knows that breaking a mirror means seven years of bad luck, and I don’t even want to know what happens if you break three! Don’t worry, our percussionists will try to undo all of this misfortune with a “Knock On Wood”. When it rains, it pours! Make sure you have your ”Umbrella” ready, but whatever you do, but don’t open it indoors! Soloists Aiden Jacobe and Isabella Lemieux are here to pick us back up and hopefully wash all that bad luck away!

Every night, when we close our eyes, we step into a world where reality gives way to imagination. Dreams can transport us to places of beauty and wonder, only to shift without warning into the strange, the unsettling, and the unknown. As the line between dream and nightmare begins to blur, one question remains: when the journey is over... have we truly awakened?
