Funding Proposals

What is a funding proposal?

  • A funding proposal is used to request funds by providing a compelling case for the proposed program/service. A funding proposal focuses on the goals and objectives of the program/service and outlines set of measures for evaluation of success. The proposal features a full breakdown of program/service resources and costs in detail.

Writing a Summary Statement

  • A summary statement (or abstract) gives the reader of the proposal a quick overview of the program/service.
  • Includes the current situation, targeted client group, proposed program/service description and any other information that is important for the reader to know before reading the full proposal.

Example Summary Statement

  1. Currently, the city of Sudbury has one shelter for homeless men. It is overcrowded and at times dangerous, which makes homeless male youth reluctant to use the shelter, even in winter. We propose to open a 60-bed shelter for homeless male youth in the downtown area.
  2. Greater Sudbury has seen a rise in the number of female youth being charged with prostitution, which poses a risk to those individuals. We would like to create an awareness and education campaign targeting youth in local high schools to decrease this statistic.
