Modern Connection

Perseus The Hunt For Medusa’s Head is like the Disney movie Tangled because characters from both the myth and the movie are locked in a tower.

Modern Connection continued

Danae is Perseus’ mother, who in the beginning of the book is locked away in a tower by her father, King Acrisius. He locked her away because an oracle had told him that he would die at the fault of his grandchild. King Acrisius tried to cheat his own death by locking his daughter Danae in a tower, only letting himself and other women in to see her, preventing her from meeting any men and barring a child.

Rapunzel is a princess in the Disney production Tangled, who is locked in a tower by her so called mother (she was stolen by this woman when she was a baby). Gothel locked her away because Rapunzel had hair that was magic. With the sing of a song, Rapunzel’s hair glows a bright yellow, which heals wounds and keeps Gothel, her mother, young- which is the reason Rapunzel is locked away.

Modern Connection continued

The two female characters share more in common than just being locked away in a tower, they also both were locked up by their parents to prevent them from running away or finding love. Both of the character’s parents hide away their children for their good, and not the child’s. Gothel does it to stay young and King Acrisius does it to stay alive for as long as he can. But being locked away didn’t stop the girls, Rapunzel and Danae both fell in love with men who snuck into their towers.
