Moving towards independence
Zone of Proximal Development (think Goldilocks)
-Tasks kids can do independently with no help
-Tasks they can complete with help/direction
-Tasks that are out of reach at current age
Challenge and Support-think about the “end game” and when that is coming. Work backwards from there.
Residency Determination Service
If you are applying to in-state schools (INCLUDING COMMUNITY COLLEGES), you MUST complete RDS in order to get status as an in-state resident. You should probably do it even if applying to out-of-state schools.
RDS “talks” to DMV, NC Dept. of Revenue, property tax system to confirm stated information.
Once you apply, watch your email for a response daily. If you are given out-of-state status, you only have ten days to appeal.
Need your CFNC log-in; if you don’t have it, email me or Laura Turner.

Transcripts
-If you use Common App put my email in as counselor and it will generate a request for a transcript. You DO NOT need to request a paper copy if applying in Common App
-If you apply directly to a school, follow their instructions.
-Paper copies are requested via the online form we sent to students.
-Submit and CHECK!!
Test scores
Scores must come directly from ACT or SAT. We CANNOT submit test scores from SAT, ACT, or AP testing.
If students can’t find their log-ins from testing, contact SAT directly.
For ACT, create an account at ACT.org and follow directions on sending scores.
If you need your ACT ID #, email Ms. Walton waltonh@wataugaschools.org
Mid-Year report and Final Reports for colleges
