WRHS Activity & Athletic Participation Requirements

All of these requirements must be met before an

athlete is allowed to practice or compete.

PHYSICAL EXAMS (IHSAA Rule 13)

  • 13-1 Students are required to undergo a physical examination and have it, along with an Interim Questionnaire, on file with the school prior to their first practice in any IHSAA sponsored sport, cheerleading, or dance activity. The Idaho Health Examination & Consent Form and Interim Questionnaire are available online at idhsaa.org.

  • 13-2 Physical exams must be taken and on file with the school prior to the first day of practice in the 9th and 11th grades. Any physical taken before May 1 of the 8th grade year will not be accepted.

  • 13-3 Physicals are required in the 9th and 11th grade year. Students who have a physical in their 10th grade year must have another for the 11th grade. Students will not be required to take an additional physical examination during the 10th and 12th grades unless:

1. The physician recommends the student have an additional examination.

2. The parents request an examination in the Interim Questionnaire.

3. Affirmative answers on 1-10 of the Interim Questionnaire indicate a possible need for a repeat physical examination.

4. A student has transferred to Idaho from another state.

Physicals…..

  • All NEW to WRHS athletics
  • All 9th graders and all 11th graders
  • 8th grade physicals are NOT valid after 5/1 8th grade year - NON NEGOTIABLE

*If you wait to schedule this until August, you’re probably missing at least one practice

Impact Testing

  • Good for 24 months and dates do NOT necessarily coincide with physical or start of school
  • Any ImPact test done through the St. Luke’s system “should” be available to our ATC

  • All athletes participating in IHSAA Athletics must have up to date insurance
  • Need to purchase insurance?

Dual Enrollment

  • If you do not attend Wood River High School (Sage, Home, SVCS, Etc.) you will need to sign up for sports via PowerSchool TECH: 208-578-5410
  • BCSD policy does not allow us to keep dual-enrolled students in some situations

Finances

Student account is up to date and paid in full for all athletic & activity expenses (A student is still eligible to participate but not play until this is completed)

  • $60 (regardless of 1 sport, 4 activities, 1 and 1, etc.)

Other Important Info…..

PE CREDIT: Wood River High School requires two Physical Education (PE) class credits as a graduation requirement. A student athlete may satisfy a maximum of one of the required two PE credits by participating in IHSAA sporting activities that include Cheerleading, Football, Cross Country, Soccer, Volleyball, Swimming, Basketball, Wrestling, Baseball, Softball, Golf, Tennis and Track.

CODE OF CONDUCT: The WRHS code of conduct (behavior code) is in effect 24/7/365

TRAVEL: Travel with another parent or guardian forms must be turned in at least 48 hrs in advance of travel

COMMUNICATION: With staff as early as possible is essential and appreciated

If you have a concern, and your son/daughter is uncomfortable talking to their coach, encourage your athlete to talk to a Captain or Leader, senior, another coach, or email their coach and let them know she/he should talk to your child.

Encourage your athletes to advocate for themselves: LIFE SKILL

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Students must pass initial eligibility check BEFORE the season
  • Students receive bi-weekly grade checks during the season
  • D’s and F’s go to study hall
  • F in the same class on consecutive grade checks = inelgible to COMPETE until passing

ATTENDANCE:

  • An athlete must be in school half the day or more in order to compete or practice that day
  • Any deviation from this for extenuating circumstances must be cleared with the Athletic Director 24 hours in advance

24 HOUR RULE:

  • There are a myriad of emotions involved with an athletic contest and season. These are present because you love your kids and our coaches love their sport. We ask that you take a deep breath and sit back and reflect before you confront a coach

ALL freshmen are required to have a sports physical that occurs AFTER May 1 of their 8th grade year.
