What are Prerequisites?

A prerequisite is a foundation course required to have been successfully completed with a "C" or better before you can take the next level course.

  • Students cannot enroll in the advance course until the prerequisite has been cleared.

    • We do not clear prerequisites that are "in process." We must see the final grades of "C" or better, for both semesters or passing AP/IB scores.

    • Lab Courses cannot be taken without the college class either having been completed or concurrently enrolled.

A waitlisted course allows students to join a waitlist until an open spot becomes available in an already full class.

Waitlisted students are captured in chronological order based on the date that they register for the waitlist. If an enrolled student drops the course, then the waitlisted student will be automatically registered into an open seat, in that order. If this happens, an email notification is sent confirming the registration to your my.vcccd.edu email address.

Students who have not received a confirmation email, by the first day of class, must attend class or email the instructor (online class) to ask if they will be adding students. To enroll in the course, an Add Code must be given to the student by the instructor only

  • The student will first need to drop the waitlisted course and then add the course with the Add Code.
  • If given an Add Code, and you do not use it to enroll before the last day to add the course, you will be dropped from the course.

According to the College Catalog

"Instructors are required to drop by the census deadline any student who has never attended class or who has quit attending class. They may drop students who do not attend the first-class meeting. The census date for each class is determined by the length of the class and may vary. Instructors may but are not required to, drop students after the census date for excessive absences."
