Parent Introduction

Each lesson is formatted the same way with four sections:

Learning intention (“Mis metas”): The goal of the lesson

Teach (“Yo aprendo”): Students view the slide presentation and videos. The language is introduced in context with videos and pictures. Note! Videos may be viewed multiple times. This is where the learning takes place!

Engage (“Yo practico”): These are interactive activities that require students to click on the correct answer, match pictures to phrases, speak, draw, type or write their answer. For each activity, there will be a slide where the directions are read aloud and modeled. The next slide is the activity slide, and this is where the student will respond. Please note that the open-ended questions include a slide after the activity with examples of correct responses, such as how to complete the sentence frame. “Here are some ways that other students responded. Did you respond this way?”

Home connection (“En mi casa”): This page includes ways to practice your language skill at home, such as talking or singing a song to a family member, reading what you wrote, or asking questions, etc.

Supporting your child in the lessons

Learning intention (“ Mis metas”): Your child should be able to understand the goal of the lesson through pictures and videos. You can ask your child to tell you what he or she learned.

Teach ( “Yo aprendo”):

Follow the lesson in the slides to learn when and how to say “Hi, good morning, my name is” and to listen and practice the Days of the Week song.

When the teacher says:

  • “Dice” your child says something

  • “Repite” your child repeats what the teacher said.

  • “Es tu turno” your child repeats the phrase, fills-in the blank of a sentence, or answers a question.
  • “Canta” your child sings along

When the teacher gestures:

  • To the ear - “Escucha” your child listens to the video or audio
  • To the child’ “Te escucho” the teacher listens to your child speak

In the Engage activities

( “Yo practico”):

  • When you see “Nearpod: Title of activity”, the blue letters mean it’s a hyperlink, click on it and it will take you to the interactive activities.
  • Play the audio to hear the directions
  • Play the video for a model of how to do the activity
  • Press record audio when it says “graba tu voz” to record your child speaking
  • Watch the video to see how to do the other activities such as Matching Pairs, Fill in the Blank, Quiz, Draw It, and Open Ended Question.

In the Home connection ( “En mi casa”):

  • On this page, you will see optional activities to practice the things your child has learned.
  • The activities on this page will not be turned in or graded.
  • These activities can be done with family members or in the home.

Expectations when watching a VIDEO:

  • You have to watch this video more than once.
  • You may stay seat or stand during the video.
  • The first time, listen carefully the words when watching the video.
  • The second time, you can act out (making gestures to represent actions and objects) the words.
  • Think of a connection between the video and you. Have you seen anything in your life similar to the video?
  • HAVE FUN!

Expectaciones cuando veas un VIDEO:

  • Tu tienes que ver este video más de una vez.
  • Tu puedes estar sentado o parado durante el video.
  • La primera vez, escucha cuidadosamente las palabras cuando escuches el video.
  • La segunda vez, tu puedes actuar (hacer gestos para representar acciones y objetos) las palabras.
