4 Year Plan

Things to consider:

  • Print your own copy of the 4-year plan HERE

  • Balance rigor with time for activities outside of the school day

  • Are there certain college programs you plan to pursue that have specific requirements?

  • Are you a potential college athlete at an NCAA college? Be sure to select classes that are NCAA approved.

Grad Requirements v.

College Recommendations

  • It is important to remember that completing core/electives required for your MMC diploma is often not sufficient for your potential colleges.

  • Core includes English, Math, Science, Social Studies and World Language

  • Challenge yourself in your area of strength and interest with an Honors course or AP (Advanced Placement) course.

  • Create a balance between challenge and time/ability. Careful to not over challenge. Consider time obligations outside school.

NCAA

  • Planning on playing a sport in college? All courses that are NCAA approved are available on the Counseling Office website, and are also identified as NCAA approved in the Course Description Guide

  • Just because a class meets a grad requirement, this does NOT mean that it is NCAA approved!

Course Selection Forms were handed out in English classes. Students needing a new copy may pick one up in the Counseling Office

Students must choose 6 classes to complete the top portion; 6 classes will give your student a full schedule in the 2022-23 school year.

Because it is very common for some of the “top choice” classes to conflict in the master schedule, students should select alternates, listed in the second table on the front of the form.

Class choices are listed on the back of this form. Descriptions can be found online in the FHPS Course Description Guide. *Note, this is the guide for all of FHPS, and some courses may only be offered in specific high schools.

Completing Your Course Request

  • Fill out all sections of the course request completely, parent signature.

  • You must take BOTH semesters of full year courses!

  • Reminder, there is a link to the Course Description Guide on the front of your course request form.

  • Directions on how to enter in PowerSchool will be covered next week in class!

  • You must enter at least two alternates before you “submit”. Choosing a third alternate is highly recommended!

  • Turn in your course request form to your English teacher on or before one week from today’s date!

AP & Honors Courses

  • Carefully consider AP and Honors classes. Read the Course Description Guide and speak to teachers to see what they recommend.

  • Student schedules for next year will be loaded once the master schedule is built in the spring. Once you are placed in an AP or Honors class, it will not be removed from your schedule.

  • The final deadline for dropping an AP or Honors selection is May 1st. You need to see your counselor in order to make this change.

  • Current Juniors - Monday, February 7th.

Important Points to Remember

  • Your schedule is the foundation to future college/post high school opportunities. Rising seniors planning on a 4-year college in the fall should choose a minimum of 3 core academics (more competitive colleges will expect more rigor).

  • Course requests determine what classes are available to you next year. Careful selection now is important! Changing your choices later may not be feasible.

  • Choose courses that YOU want! Making decisions based on what friends are planning will not serve you well. Identical classes will not guarantee identical schedules.
