Important SDOC Policies about Visitors
The board requires that all visitors, including parents/legal guardians, report to the school office, present a photo I.D., sign in for the visit, and receive the principal’s authorization before visiting elsewhere in the building. Each visitor will wear a visitor’s pass while in the building. Upon leaving the building, visitors are required to sign out and return their visitor’s pass to the office staff. Students may not bring siblings or other family members to school with them without prior authorization.
Because classrooms and other instructional areas are the most vulnerable to disruptions, specific conditions may be imposed upon visitors including, but not limited to, the following: remaining in a designated place or seat; refraining from speaking to students while the class or activity is in session; refraining from entering or leaving the area while an activity is underway; requiring that the dress and grooming of the visitor be consistent with the dress code for the students and employees within the building (see policy JICA and administrative rule JICA-R); requiring that the visitor be chaperoned
Principals may also limit the frequency of visits if that frequency becomes a disruption to the learning environment.
