Why is Temporary Relocation Necessary?

Temporary Relocation

  • Residents are not required to move at this time. This will be collaboratively planned with a relocation team well in advance of construction.

​

  • The Wyckoff Modernization Team will host a dedicated meeting by the end of Q2 of 2025 to discuss the temporary relocation in detail and answer all temporary relocation-related questions.

Gowanus Houses Charter Agreement on Resident Relocation

Between NYCHA and Residents

  1. No resident shall be displaced during or after the relocation process.

​

  • All residents shall have the right to return to the same apartment unless otherwise requested.

​

  • Rents shall not be impacted or increased as a result of this work.

​

  • All reasonable moving expenses shall be paid for by NYHCA.

​

  • The property shall remain under NYCHA management (Section 9)

Temporary Relocation

  • In most cases, no temporary relocation will extend more than 30 days.

​

  • Relocation team conduct assessments with each household to survey needs, identify reasonable accommodations, and answer questions.

​

  • Residents should expect to be out of their apartments during most of the construction. Minor renovation work may continue once tenants have returned.

​

  • Dedicated meeting by the end of Q2 – meeting will take place before any construction starts. All resident will have 30 days advanced notice before any moves happen.
