  • The parents of Cambodian students likely did not attend college. Teachers should proactively discuss higher education and share resources with Cambodian students.

  • Teachers should encourage Cambodian students to share their family history if they are comfortable and willing.

  • Cambodian culture tends to emphasize obedience to authorities like teachers and parents. Teachers should encourage critical thinking and personal leadership with Cambodian students.

  • Teachers should not assume that just because Cambodian parents do not come to conferences and school events that these parents do not care their children’s education. In Cambodian culture, parents leave these decisions to the teachers.
