The purpose of the TV show The Simpsons [1989-] is to entertain. “We just try to write something funny to try to entertain ourselves,” Mark Reiss (writer) says. A moment from the TV show used is ‘“Who’s shh-ing me. He’s on his phone, she’s texting, and that guy brought a baby to a movie” Homer Simpson says when he’s in a cinema.

Meaning
This scene in the TV show ‘The Simpsons’ [1989-present] is to create meaning of the bond and support the family have. As the family, especially Homer, are presented to be dysfunctional through their life activities, this makes their characteristics and personalities memorable. Due to this, it’s significant when they’re shown to be sensitive to each other’s feelings and reveal their comforting nature when required.
An example of this is shown in an episode when Bart Simpson misses an opportunity to experience inside a live submarine with his friend Milhouse Van Houten. Noticing that Bart really wanted to go, Homer assures him saying “Hey, I bet that submarine wasn’t so fun anyway”, which helps Bart feel better. Because Bart and Homer tend to have a love-hate relationship, it can demonstrate that despite the fact they argue the most in the family and their differences, especially compared to the town they live in, they do love and care for each other. Genre
The genre of the TV show “ The Simpsons” [1989] is a animated sitcom. evidence to back up my point is in season 27 episode 5 when bart simpson really wants a comic book for 25c and he can’t get it until he can travel back in time to 1974 and then there is this flash of lighting and then a car and a man turns up where bart askes can this car go back in time to 1974 and then another flash of lightning turns up for the police. The flash of lightning then indicates to the audience that maybe it is to hide the persons hand or the setting up of the character figures and if we look closely at the figures of the police men especially it looks like lego blocks.
