More recently, Digital Badging is used in the workplace to track training requirements. Higher education and Alliance of Education use it to track progress and achievements.

Why not K-12?

Lessons learned:

  • Be careful of copyright laws (Images - Tools - Usage Rights - Labeled for reuse...
  • Share with “can view” settings if you do not want the students to have access to moving the badges themselves.
  • Google Drawings is a bit more “friendly” if you wish to have the chart as the background and layer movable icons on top.
  • Let go of the reigns!
  • Putting the badge sheets in Google Classroom for all to see has two benefits:
    • allows students to know who to go to for help (who’s already done that badge)
    • students who are done, will ask the others if they need help or encourage them to do a certain badge because it was really cool
    • Of course, this depends on each class and it’s students but in my case with 550 students, I have found making it public very helpful

The student badge sheets (Google Drawing) are shared with each student. Teacher copies and pastes the spy onto each badge. The students have the ability to view but not edit. Only the teacher can remove the spy once a challenge has been completed.
