Registration for 2023-2024

• Registration for current 5th graders will take place the week of February 27-March 3 at your elementary school.
• Elementary schools will be sharing information with parents regarding the registration process and course offerings at RMS. RMS course catalogs will be posted on the RMS website on February 21.
• 5^th grade teachers will be making recommendations for the core classes and students will be able to request their top choices for essential arts classes as well as alternate requests.
• Please note that while we do our best to place students in some of their top choices for essential arts classes, final schedules are based on course demand, teacher allocations, and inherent scheduling issues.

Inclusion Classes: co-taught by a general education teacher and special education teacher.

Intensive Reading Labs: year round classes providing specialized reading and or writing support to those with below reading proficiency. Each of these classes will take the place of two semester long essential arts classes.

ID Moderate Classes: serve students with moderate intellectual disabilities by providing specialized instruction in all academic areas through a modified curriculum, as well as instruction in daily living, pre-vocational, and communication skills.

The mission of the Riverside Middle School Counseling Department is to provide a proactive, comprehensive, collaborative, and developmentally appropriate program that utilizes meaningful experiences to ensure that all learners are prepared to become productive and engaged members of our global community.

The school counselors at RMS work in collaboration with the school, home and community to educate and and support the personal/social and academic needs of students.

Greenville County Schools is pleased to be able to provide a personal device for every student’s to use in the classroom and at home to enhance their educational experience. Greenville County teachers are preparing students for jobs and careers that will be heavily focused on technology. For students, the ability to use technology efficiently to get work done, creatively to produce work and effectively to communicate and collaborate with others will be critical to survive the 21st Century workplace.

A backpack for parents account provides parents, guardians, or contacts with a central place to sign in to do the following:

• View their student's information including demographics, attendance, classes, grades, lunch balances, and test scores
• Apply or register their student to Special Focus schools and programs (Fine Arts Center, Career Centers, etc.)
• Receive alerts and notifications regarding their students
• View their student's school and contact information
• Manage parent and contact information for their students

• We are here to support your student and their health care needs and look forward to working with you next year.
• Information about the health room can be found in the student handbook located on the RMS website. We encourage students and parents to read those carefully.
• In preparation for the upcoming year, we ask that you please verify that your student's immunizations are up to date, and provide us with copy of your child's immunization record.
• Additional information and medical forms can be found on GCSD and RMS websites.

Attendance Policy

• Student's should turn a note in for ALL absences within 2 days of returning to school.
• Absent notes can be submitted by the student in the front office or emailed to Mary Woods at mwoods@greenville.k12.sc.us.
• Students are allowed 10 absences from school (5 per semester in semester long classes). After 10 absences all absences must be verified by a medical provider.
• Without a note, all absences are unexcused. If a student has 3 or more consecutive unexcused absences or 5 total unexcused absences, an attendance intervention conference will be scheduled for parents/guardians to speak with the attendance clerk.
• If your student/family is facing a hardship that will result in excessive absences, please contact the attendance clerk or your student's school counselor so we may assist you and your student.

Early Dismissal Policy

• On the day a student needs to leave early, he/she must bring a note from a parent or guardian stating the reason for his/her dismissal, the phone number where parents can be reached, and the homeroom teacher’s name. This note must be signed by the parent and must be in the main office no later than 8:25am.
• The last early dismissal of the day is 2:45pm.
• Student's will be counted absent for the periods they miss.
• Students dismissed before completing 3 periods will be counted absent for the entire day.
• Early dismissals are excused for the reasons which apply for an excused absence.
• Parents/guardians coming to pick a student up for an early dismissal must be listed on the student's blue card in the front office (filled out the first week of school) and will need to show a valid photo ID upon pick up.

Extended Day Program

We are excited to offer our students an extended day option. The Extended Day Program runs from 3:30 - 5:45 pm daily. Students receive a snack, approximately one hour of study/homework time with certified teachers, and recreation time.

Registration for next year will open at the end of February. There is a $40 non-refundable registration fee that must be paid in cash or check. Please see our EDP website for more information.
