Realistic Drawing

Accuracy: Realistic drawings aim to closely resemble the actual appearance of the subject, emphasizing accurate proportions, details, and shading.

Observation: Artists often spend time observing and studying the subject to capture its realistic features, textures, and lighting.

Natural Representation: The goal is to create a drawing that closely mirrors what one would see in reality, with attention to fine details and a focus on accurate representation.

Possible Materials

  1. Colored Pencils
  2. Water Colors
  3. Sharpie
  4. Alcohol Markers
  5. Tempera Paint

Remember, not too much water on the paper and many of the previous examples show colors that are semi transparent.

Steps

  1. Analyze the words on your dictionary page, front and back. Read through them carefully. Choose a word to bring to imagery on the page.
  2. Brainstorm layouts and ideas in your sketchbook. At least two half page sketches.
  3. Find and use a reference photo
  4. Consider your composition! Should your image take up the whole page or should it be just around the word or in one corner? What if your drawing continued off the page?
  5. Lightly sketch your drawings on the dictionary page.
  6. Practice sketching your word in your sketchbook. I type my in Word with the font “character” a (serif font fits the dictionary better). Then I zoomed in to see it clearly and sketced.
  7. Outline with a fine tip sharpie (if pen make sure it is dry before you add any water to the page)
  8. Add color through one mediums or multiple media
  9. Let it completely dry
  10. Glue on top of black construction paper

3. Lightly sketch your drawing on your dictionary page.

Be careful! The paper is delicate.

4. Sketch your text. Look at a Serif Font. �Some fonts: Character, Times New Roman, Typewriter, Georgia, etc.��Think of the size in relation to the subject. Don’t have it over power the imagine it or too small.

5. Outline it with a fine tip sharpie

Outline your drawing.

Add variation to your outlines to give it more interest.

Fill in your text/wood with your fine tip sharpie.

Let it dry.

Paint or color with your chosen medium or media.

Sign the bottom right corner in sharpie.

Write information on the back of the black paper.

Mount (glue) on Front of the black paper:

Put a little glue on the edges.

Ensure it is straight.

Press down wipe away any excess glue.

  6. Craftsmanship and Presentation
  7. Use of time in class

**Sketchbook assignment will also be graded! Make sure you do your sketches.
