In-Text Citation Project: Insurgent
By: Marc B
Protagonist/Antagonist
The Protagonist of the story is: Tris
The Antagonist of the story is: Jeanine Matthews (Leader of the Erudite), Jeanine tries to execute Tris and find information about the Divergent to make an unstoppable army.
Setting
There are many different setting in the book Insurgent, but the main setting is probably in the Erudite Headquarters because Tris just escaped but spent most of the book at the Erudite. This book takes place in Present Time.
Climax
The Climax of the story is when Jeanine Matthews threatens to kill everyone from the Dauntless until one of the Divergent sacrifice themselves.
Rising Action
Some of the Rising Action’s are:
→ When the simulation took over the Dauntless
→ When Tris had no other option than to shoot Will.
→ When Tris found out that her brother betrayed her family.
More Rising Action
→ When Tris feels like she has to sacrifice herself but Tobias won’t let her (She lies to saying that she is just going to say “Hi” to her brother).
Falling Action
The Falling Action is when Tris lies to Tobias telling him that she is just saying “Hi” when she really sacrifices herself to the Erudite.
Resolution
The main part of the story was when Tris was captured, and when Peter switched the Death Injection with the Sleep Injection it allowed Peter, Tobias, and Tris to escape.
Theme
The first Theme of my novel (Insurgent) is: Never give up. Even though Tris was captured and sentenced to death several times she always got out of it.
The second theme of my novel is: Treat people how you would like to be treated. Tris’s worst rival (Peter) hated each other but since Tris helped Peter, Peter switched the death simulation with a sleep one so Tris wouldn’t die.
Major Conflict
The Major Conflict of my novel (Insurgent) was when Tris sacrificed herself to the Erudite. This was also a big turning point in the story. This type of conflict is Person vs Society I believe.
5 Methods of Characterization
Tris
Description: Short, Skinny, Blond hair.
Actions: Very brave and daring. 1st one to jump into Dauntless HQ.
Dialogue: Tries to say things that make her look tough.
Inner Thoughts and Feelings: Tries to make things seem easy when they really aren't.
Opinions of others: She doesn’t like anyone who won’t tell her something.
Point of View
I think in my novel (Insurgent) the point of view is FIrst person because it isn’t another person talking about her. She is expressing her own thoughts and feelings about everything.
In-text Citations
“I was just thinking, I’m surprised the factionless agreed to work with Dauntless so easily. It’s not like the Dauntless were ever kind to them.” Tris said. (Roth,423)
This shows that if you want someone to be kind to you don’t be mean to them back, Treat others the way you would want to be treated.
