Use the scattergrams and data about each college’s GPA and test scores on Naviance to help you decide if a school is a reach, target or safety. Don’t just guess!

How do I get started?

  • Make an account for each college/system to which you want to apply

  • Find out what your schools require (tests, essays, supplements, recommendation letters)

  • Attend your senior year counseling check-in

  • Make a college counseling appointment with Mrs. Evare (A-Le) or Ms. Lowe (Li-Z)

There’s more...

  • Confirm SAT/ACT policies for your schools
  • If required, send your scores 4 weeks prior to your application deadline. It could take up to 3 weeks for your schools to receive your scores and many colleges want to receive your scores by your application deadline
  • If your school needs recommendation letters, find out how many and then ask teachers nicely ASAP
  • Complete your counselor recommendation materials (check your email for details and dates)
  • Start working on your essays and supplements today!

  • The MVLA High School Foundation is providing SAT testing to seniors at MVHS on October 23rd.

  • More information is now available and shared by the MVHS administration, as students need to register in advance for the date. Click here for the details. Register no later than 3 pm 8/30!

Senior Check Ins

  • Counselors are on the 2nd floor of Student Services building
  • 15 minute check in with your counselor.
  • Please check your MVHS Google calendar for the time and date of the appointment.
  • Let your teacher know ahead of time that you will miss about a small portion of class on the day of your check in with your counselor.

The End Is in Sight…

  • Admission notification now made almost exclusively in web portals
    • UC notification in mid- to late March
    • CSU notification on a rolling basis
    • Private school notification varies, but mid-March to early April is common
  • May 1st is the deadline to select one school.
  • Request final transcript from the registrar to be sent to chosen college during Senior Checkout.
