Virtual Reality (VR)

A computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional environment that can be explored and interacted with by a person

4 of 43

Virtual Reality (VR)

  • It typically involves the use of special electronic equipment, such as:
    • VR headsets (like Oculus, HTC Vive, etc.)
    • Motion controllers
    • Sometimes gloves or suits with sensors

Virtual Reality (VR) - Key Features

    • Immersion
      • Makes you feel like you're “inside” a digital world
      • You forget the real world around you and feel like you're actually there in the VR environment
      • Example: If you're wearing a VR headset and walking on a virtual mountain, and it feels so real that you get scared of falling — that’s immersion!
    • Interactivity: You can look around, move, and interact with objects
    • 3D Environment: Simulates a real or imagined setting in three dimensions

Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE)

  • A CAVE is a special room where walls, floor, and ceiling act like screens
  • 3D images are projected all around you. When you step inside, it feels like you're inside the virtual world — just like being inside a giant VR headset!

Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE)

  • Key Points:
  • You don’t wear a headset — the room becomes the VR.
  • Uses multiple projectors and 3D glasses.
  • Used in research, training, and industry (like flight simulation, medical training, etc.).

Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE)

Example 1: Imagine you walk into a room where:

  • The walls, floor, and ceiling show moving blue water.
  • You see colorful fish swimming around you.
  • When you turn your head, you see coral reefs behind you.
  • A shark swims past your side — and you feel like it’s really close!
  • You’re not wearing a headset — but because of the 3D projections and special glasses, it feels like you’re inside the ocean.
  • This is a CAVE system — turning a real room into a virtual underwater world.

Example 2: Imagine a cube-shaped room where every wall shows a part of a jungle.

When you walk in, it looks and feels like you're standing in a real jungle — animals, trees, and all!
