  • Early College
    • Attend MC during 11th and 12th grade full time and do not attend classes at Sherwood HS, but can participate in activities/clubs
    • Earn a high school diploma and an Associate’s (2 year degree)

  • JumpStart to College
    • Attend MC for 1 or 2 classes and attend Sherwood HS
    • See your counselor/Ms. Margolis if interested

Fire and Rescue

Regional College and Career Part-time Programs

@ Montgomery County Public Safety Training Academy

Students will study:

  • Fire prevention and control
  • Emergency medical technology
  • Learn how to safely respond to hazardous material incidents

All while earning industry certification and/or college credit

Formal training will be provided by the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI) of the University of Maryland

Transportation: MCPS Transportation is provided to students from all 25 MCPS high schools.

STEM Ready

The STEM Ready program provides support and services for students to pursue a seamless pathway to a 4-year college degree in select STEM fields

Including:

  • Translational Life Science Technology (TLST)
  • Computer Science
  • Mechanical Engineering

Students in grades 11 and 12 begin to participate in supportive activities which supplement their academic pursuit of a STEM focused Associate Degree at Montgomery College and Bachelor’s Degree from University of Maryland Baltimore County at the Universities at Shady Grove.

MCPS Apprenticeship Maryland Program

Participating students will be able to

  • Enter the workforce while still in high school
  • Earn a salary
  • Gain marketable industry skills
  • Learn from a highly skilled mentor
  • Receive a State Skill Certificate as a result of meeting all the state program standards
  • Have the opportunity to continue in the career field after graduation

Transportation: Students must provide their own transportation.
