Thank PRIME and Karen for the invitation to address this audience today.
A bit of background - Jim Founder and MD at DecarbonEaser, 20 years experience in business
Worked across various industries: Banking, recruitment, marketing, training, software
Mostly in the Training space touching differents skills, soft skills, technical skills, methodology, IT skills etc.
Learning has always been high on my priority as much as the impact we have on our planet.
I am from france but worked in australia for over 10 years. I have 2 kids, and turning 40 5 years ago, I decided to shift from a corporate role, and decided to use my skills and experience to focus at empowering employees ad individuals to make a difference.
Today will be about skills and how Climate workshops can be a great vehicle to practise and evidence those skill while having a positive impact.

Educators/Students/coaches

Looking at the diversity in the room from educators to coaches, students it is important to see that the demand is cross‑disciplinary.
When you think about business need, we are looking at stakeholder engagement but also tenders requiring climate & carbon literacy, and as ever project and change management.

The climate and nature crisis we are experiencing are increasing risk for businesses, there are a number of regulation that are in place and will be ramping up. There are a number of market shifts that are and will keep happening as a result, tech transitions and a number of societal expectations.
All the skills that you see on the screen are skills that you will need to own and all of them you can develop by running the workshops I’ll talk about in a min.

Best of all, all the skills that you will be able to gain from theses sessions are all transferable, no matter the sectors; climate context simply makes the practice real and current.

And even better yet, everyone is welcome to become a facilitator as no prior knowledge required. As I said I wasn't in that space before at all..

What if I am not in Sustainability?

I have an anecdote from very recently when I was delivering a workshop at Imperial College as part of the induction week.
A student came to me half way through the session and asked me ‘Why am I here? I am not studying sustainability’

Here is the thing, as you can see on the screen this is how still many people think of sustainability, a field in itself, that you are specialised in.

But it is increasingly becoming this:

Coming back to my student at imperial who was in a master in management, needless to say she was up to a surprise to realise her future role will be related to sustainability one way or another. Whichever role you are in you will need to gain an understanding of the impact the business is having and how to reduce it, communicate about it, integrate it in finance risks etc.

Introduction to Climate workshops

A facilitated collaborative and thought provoking experience

Objective is for participants to map complex climate/nature cause & effect

Many cycles of discussions with groups from 5 to 15 participants

It’s hands-on, visual and you will engage with people.”

As much as the content is important I cannot emphasise enough how much it will give you an edge as able to practice for core skills in a safe environment.

Really enjoyable as a participants because you learn a lot, have great conversations, connect emotionally to the topic, you also leave empowered to act. And you’ll also have fun while doing it!

But after taking part you have the option to become a facilitator and this is where you will build all the skills we talked about before and more!

Facilitating workshop mean, managing a group of people as much as conversations, dealing with various learning styles, ensuring good collaboration, etc

But also learn how to read the room, identify various personalities and learn how to work with them, very valuable when you are working in a team or a leader in a business.

As you can see there are various topics you can decide to facilitate.

Best of all you’ll have a real sense of purpose by empowering individuals and business people to act!
