The Pink Day Story!
The International Day Of Pink celebrates equality.
This year, Pink Day was on April 14th 2021. Pink Day stands up against bullying and discrimination on any grounds. One day In 2007, a high school boy wore a pink shirt to school and he was met with physical and verbal bullying from this peers. Students Travis Price and David Shepherd, were witnesses of the incident, resulting in their considerate actions by showing their support for him. The next day, the two spread the message that their classmate was being bullied, convincing everyone at the school to wear pink. This is an example of showing your support for someone when they are getting bullied. This small action of 2 bystanders has turned into a day where we get to show off the colour pink in all its glory. It doesn’t matter who wears it, this colour has turned into a symbol of international support for those who have been hurt by gender stereotypes.
Torn Heart Story
One Thursday morning, Mellissa's alarm clock rang, but she didn't get out of bed. She was afraid to go school today (crumple). She always followed the same vicious cycle. “Mom, I'm sick,” she said. Her mother had heard this before, “Sweetheart you’re always sick and you need to go to school.” Mellissa put on her clothes and ran to catch the bus, where she sat alone (crumple). At school, whispers and giggles followed her down the hall, people pointing at her clothes and hair (crumple). In class the teacher asked her to answer the questions on the board. “I can't” The teacher replied, “ why can't you? Are you dumb or did you just not finish the homework” The class laughed (crumple). The rest of the day was long and drawn out. Going home wasn't much batter; bitter words and cruel labels followed her everywhere (crumple). As soon as she got home, she checked her instagram account. She told herself that likes didn't matter but she couldn't help but scroll through the comments. The words fat, ugly, stupid appeared in more ways than she could imagine. How could someone do this? (crumple) She cried silently, for she thought that no one was listening. (completely crumple the heart). Eventually, the bullies apologized to her.
Now try to uncrumple the heart. The paper will never be the same as it was before. The words will always leave a mark.

Wear a pink shirt to show your support and stand up against discrimination and bullying. If you don’t have a pink shirt, don’t fret! Any pink will do! The message is more important than the clothing!

An Activity!
There are so many things to do to celebrate Pink Day but we should also talk about a main aspect of it - bullying. Bullying has long lasting effects on a person’s mental well-being. We’re asking students to answer 3 questions.

Pink Day 2019
This video shows a school celebrating the International Day Of Pink in 2019. Even if it can’t be the same this year, we still need to recognize Pink Day!

Bullying will be an issue forever, but reducing the amount of bullying is a crucial part in order to fix our broken society. If you’re being bullied, don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself.
