Goal / Project Overview- 34th Ave Grant
P.S.398Q will work with Street Lab to create a student vision for the 34th Avenue Open Street and demonstrate these ideas through a single-day street event. This project will consist of a series of workshops with students focused on community stewardship and public space, culminating in a street event celebrating student ideas for their neighborhood. Through the Sustainability Project Grant, we aim to:
Despite proximity to the 34th Ave Open Street, our school does not currently use the street. We know this is a missed opportunity and have hopes to better utilize this space in the future. This project offers a prime opportunity for us to reimagine the Open Street as an extension of the classroom, form meaning community partnerships, and expand learning and leadership opportunities for our students.
Collaboration with Street Lab-Sustainability Grant
On March 18th, we hosted our first event with Street Lab- a non profit organization who works with schools to reimagine open streets as a venue for learning and imaginative play. It was a success with our newly established Green Team led by our science teacher Ms. Suchan. They designed the stations and supported our youngest students during the event.
The many teams of PS398Q
The 2025-2026 school year has been filled with many exciting new adventures. We have launched our first cheerleading team, green team, newspaper club, and will be soon starting a K-2 drama club! Our debate team brought home a trophy and our cheerleaders attended the cheerleading expo. Our student council has been involved in making many important decisions. We are excited for our students to take on new challenges.
Our Leader In Me Journey
Our school community has embraced Leader In Me! We have a robust Lighthouse team that has been fully trained. We have held monthly lighthouse team meetings and have involved student council in the creation of a child friendly mission statement. We delivered a Monday PL to all staff and our classroom teachers have begun to teach LIM lessons. We have purchased poster sets for each classroom. We have collected parent volunteers for a parent lighthouse team and will be meeting with them soon to present our new mission statement and elicit feedback.
