Delegates’ Report

Two Resolutions were passed at the last MCCPTA Delegates Assembly on January 27th:

  1. Resolution on Technology and AI: Concerns over the use of generative AI and the impact it poses on learning as well as the overuse of Chromebooks in and out of the classroom as reported on a recent MCCPTA Technology Committee report prompted the MCCPTA Technology Committee to propose MCCPTA Resolution on Intentional, Effective, and Safe Use of Technology, including Artificial Intelligence, in MCPS Schools resolution, which passed unanimously. More information on the resolution and the MCCPTA asks of MCPS here.
  2. Synthetic turf Resolution: The MCCPTA Health and Wellness Committee brought forth a resolution on the use of synthetic turf for MCPS athletic fields. They cite issues with heat risks and exposure to toxic chemicals through the use of synthetic turf. The resolution asks for a moratorium on the installation of new turf fields. They ask that they initiate a RFP for the installation of sustainable, state-of-the-art natural grass fields.

Things to Consider:

  • MCPS Immigration Supports: MCPS has developed a number of resources for families regarding their constitutional rights around immigration enforcements in our community. More information can be found here.

13

  • MCPS Snow Removal Process and Extended Closure: Due to questions and concerns regarding the snow removal process and resulting extended closures of MCPS schools, the Richard Montgomery Cluster leaders shared their concerns at the Superintendent's FY27 Recommended Operating Budget meeting yesterday evening.
