  • Organize a Trip for twenty students and two chaperones to Give Kids the World Village in Kissimmee, Florida. website

  • GKTWV is a Non-Profit resort near the major theme parks in Central Florida. This resort welcomes families of children who are living with life threatening diseases at NO cost.

Why only 20 students?

  • Limited number of volunteer opportunities at GKTWV.
  • Chaperones are responsible for transportation.
  • This is not booked through a travel company so logistically, it can be a lot of work.
  • A smaller group leads to a more personal and meaningful experience for all involved.

Who can participate?

This opportunity will be available to any student who will be 16 or older at the time of travel.

  • GKTWV requires anyone under 16 to have another adult with them at all times.
  • Students that wish to participate will engage in regular meetings prior to the trip.
  • All students will receive and be required to read the book “Gift of Life” authored by the founder of GKTWV, Henri Landwirth
  • All students will be required to be in good academic standing, have a clean discipline history and strong attendance record.

What is Camp Sunshine?

What is Camp Sunshine? Camp Sunshine is a retreat for children with life threatening illnesses and their families. This camp supports families who have children in various stages of the illness. Its mission is to provide a retreat for the entire family - the ill child, the parents and the siblings. The program is free for the families. It is staffed by 80-100 volunteers per session. Our job is to make sure the children and the families have fun and take a break from the ongoing challenges they face at home due to the illness.

What is the focus of the week at Camp Sunshine? The camp provides a variety of activities including:

  • swimming
  • boating
  • soccer
  • volleyball
  • arts and crafts
  • basketball
  • archery
  • much much more!

What will we be doing?

  • Each student will be assigned a duty for the time we are at camp. Some duties include
    • Kitchen Crew
    • Activity Window
    • Arts and crafts
    • Nursery/Tot Lot (ages 3 -5) Counselor
    • 6 - 8 year old Counselor
    • 9 - 12 year old Counselor
    • Lifeguard (with proper certification)
    • Marina

  • Lead Counselors

  • Each night there are group activities such as a talent show, magician, masquerade dance, a bonfire and a slideshow.

What is GAPP?

  • Sponsors: Goethe Institut, US State department and the German Foreign ministry, Ckeck Point Charlie Foundation
  • Largest bilateral student exchange program between US and Germany; about 9,000 students annually
  • Purpose to create long lasting partnerships between a US and German schools; currently over 756 active school partnerships in existence
  • All travel and arrangements are made directly by the GAPP teams at the US and German schools, therefore you child travels at direct cost

GAPP Exchange

We can receive a stipend from the Goethe Institut toward teacher / chaperone travel cost and each student traveling

Financial based support is also available.

We’ve had scholarships issued to GD students in the past exchanges - amounts may vary based on the situation.

  • Minimum of 14 days in Germany, with a minimum of 10 days with the host families and 5 days in the schoot
  • Homestays for both German and American students and faculty
  • Student involvement in their host community
  • Participation in the host school classes and make presentations
  • Overarching project completed by German and American students as part of the exchange experience - currently discussing comparin sport culture in student life
  • Surveys for families and students

$2,100 - Maximum

any difference will be refunded after the final reconciliation

This includes :

  • Round Trip Transportation from GD to Germany
  • All transportation within Germany
  • All hotel/hostel and meal cost during any travel portion of the trip. Meals during the host family stay are provided by the families, the way you provide them for students here during the inbound trip
  • Insurance with Bernhard Insurance, a GAPP vetted travel insurance company (health, liability, legal)
  • Incidental cost (inbound costs, gifts for host school, project related cost, group T-Shirts/sweatshirts, etc.)
