About the UKMMN Industry Forum

The Network’s Industry Forum is a platform for industrial network partners to identify metamaterials exploitation pathways. This Forum will facilitate the transition from research into industrial applications and consider opportunities to upskill industrial staff.

The Industry Forum will support market analysis to develop strategic documents (e.g. White Papers), and will position itself as a body capable of advising funders and policy makers.

HOW TO ENGAGE

The Network aims to make metamaterials as accessible as possible by offering the following free-of-charge* opportunities:

  • display what you can offer and have your logo added on our partners page: simply join the Network’s expert database;
  • participate in Network workshops and other events (online or in-person);
  • suggest a topic of interest to you on which we could run a workshop/showcase to bring academia & industry together;
  • disseminate job advertisements to attract new talent to your company;
  • promote your company as an employer at our online & in-person careers events;
  • access academic expertise by searching the expert database or asking info@metamaterials.network for help to find the right person;
  • be a mentor to the early career researchers;
  • access Network support for summer student project facilitation: If you wish to sponsor an undergraduate summer student, we can organise the project process for you – from a call for project ideas among the academic community to undergraduate recruitment, employment, and the final report.

* = a small commitment fee may be applicable for cost-intensive events such as the national conference and in-person workshops.

Metamaterials have been identified by PepsiCo R&D as an early stage technology that has the capacity to enhance food, beverage and packaging to create new consumer and business benefits

  • Improved food and beverage packaging
    • Frequency selective microwave heating
    • Colour without dyes
    • Biodegrade after exposure to an external field
    • Communicate state of food / beverages (in production, during use or after use)

  • Enabling delivery of customised consumer experiences in packaging e.g. maintain temperature, reshape for a new use

  • Temporary or permanent coating structures applied to processing equipment e.g. to enhance CIP, change surface functionality (flow conditions, heat or energy transfer).

  • We are looking for prototypes for proof-of-principle testing (food-safe as appropriate), as well as economical routes to scale.
