Our Question:

  • What is the relationship between the diversity of aquatic macroinvertebrates and the speed/depth of the water in their habitat?
  • We will be creating “leaf packs” and placing them in the creek in places with varying water depths and speeds

Our Data Collection

  • We need information about the water – we’ll use visual observations:
    • Fast and shallow
    • Slow and deep
  • We need information about AMI diversity – we’ll count and categorize:
    • Which types of AMIs do we see?
    • How many of each type?

Answering Our Question:

  • We will calculate the biodiversity of our AMIs
  • We will analyze our data by creating summary data tables and graphs
  • We will use statistics to evaluate whether our data is meaningful or not
