Window Washing Services
At Top Cleaning KC, washing windows was our entry into the professional cleaning industry. We bought a few squeegees, a few buckets, and a ladder. We used a bit of detergent and filled the buckets with clean water. We then went around to all of the businesses in the area and asked if they had someone who regularly came and cleaned the glass of their storefronts. For those who didn’t have a regular commercial window washing service under contract, we were able to pick up some of the business. Of course, some people said that it wasn’t important to them, but oh well. Sales isn’t about getting everyone to say ‘yes.’ It is about finding the people who could benefit from your service and presenting to them in such a way that they would be dumb not to buy from you. Window washing services isn’t that tough of a sale so this is how we started our initial generation of business income… through cleaning windows.

House Cleaning Services
At Top Cleaning KC, we started offering house cleaning services from the very beginning. There wasn’t hardly any startup costs to worry about, other than disinfectant, sanitizing wipes, trash bags, and other things you would typically use to clean up messes. We did a lot of the work ourselves in the beginning and we were quite the efficient little housekeepers if I do say so myself. We worked extremely hard and could outwork any other maid service in the Kansas City or Overland Park area. Again, we got started out in the house cleaning industry by going around the neighborhood and knocking on people’s doors to offer our services. This was a little bit tougher sale than the window washing service because people thought that it would cost to much. We assured them that the cost of housekeeping was trivial when compared to the peace of mind that it would bring. Our maid service pricing was laid out in a very straightforward manner and we were able to make some sales.

Carpet Cleaning Services
At Top Cleaning KC, carpet cleaning services were something that we needed assistance with. We didn’t want to buy a bunch of carpet cleaners and vans to drive around in the same way we did for our other cleaning services. Professional carpet cleaners use truck-mounted equipment with very long hoses that we just couldn’t afford at the time. The cost happened to outweigh the benefit at that time and we thought it best to just give the carpet cleaning leads to one of the other companies who already had the equipment and staff to do the work. This turned out to be a very good way to do business because we built up pretty good relationships with other carpet cleaning companies in the area and now, when we can’t get to a lead right away, we still send them work from time to time. We usually do that for things like area rug cleaning and simple carpet stain removal jobs. We don’t want to spend all day driving only to scrub a carpet for a few minutes and then leave.
