Story Synopsis

Elisa Rverend stands to defend her abode with her guardian after a hound is spotted outside their rusted steel workshop for the nth time in her life. Despite warnings, she nearly falls before this hound is vanquished, and yet, she stands more firm in desiring strength for others like her guardian is to her.

When the amethyst heart drops from the hound’s dissipating corpse and its shine reflects in Elisa’s prismatic pupils, Elisa’s guardian is convinced to venture with Elisa to lend the Hound’s heart to the Kingdom of Alrenda’s team of pioneers to end a monthly recurring invasion titled Walpurgisnacht that will inevitably terrorize the Royal Capitol the day of arrival.

During the journey, Elisa learns to be considerate and appreciative of familial values.  Her guardian’s parental guidance would be the last recognized value, which served as the sole inspiration that allowed Elisa to solely transform into who she wants to be naturally.

Elisa will not be completely transformed after the journey, but the people she saves will lend their gratitude for Elisa’s kindness in a world that wants to break her.  Among the stories that nearly break her, it’s the origin that brought her to Juniper in the first place, told by her guardian during their travels.

An assignment that required specific details to help others understand what my dream project encapsulates for theme, story, character, and ending.

STORYBOARD

  • This storyboard is the first step into producing a visual representation of what the project should entail. I did not write enough for a clear description on the slides, so it may appear confusing.

THUMBNAIL SKETCHES

  • These thumbnail sketches capture the essential parts of Elisa, the main protagonist in the project story I have dreamt since I was 11 years old. For future thumbnail sketches, keeping consistent poses will serve as a better and easier way to change the clothing and hairstyle to match what I want.

CAMERA SHOTS

  • These camera shots showcase my perceptive ability to recognize and assign unique and eye-catching angles for the audience. Using pre-made models and rigs, I utilized as much as I can to depict scenes that create emotion or imply upcoming events.

3D MODEL ASSIGNMENT

  • I learned hard-surface and poly-modeling to create a BR86 train with basic primitives only and a cowboy hat with a few unneeded ngons.

Rigging

  • This is my first time rigging in Maya! Assigning blend shapes to the rig is both appealing and surprisingly easy to do.

VFX

  • Learning the differences between soft body and rigid body simulations in Maya were astounding to complete and watch in the playblasts. I learned to create a flag too using subdivision and pinning vertices to the pole.

Animated Ball Bounce

  • I looked forward to this animation assignment for the longest time. I felt very creative and free during the work here and this is my favorite frame that shows my attention to eases and squash and stretch.

LIGHTING ASSIGNMENT

INSPIRED BY GLADIATOR (2000). I MADE A 3-POINT LIGHT SETUP WITH FILL, KEY, AND BACKLIGHTING.

DENOISED RENDER (MAYA)

After changing Maya’s Arnold render settings to reduce more noise, the resulting render looks nearly complete! I think a higher denoising count would be very beneficial for professional renders.

3D LOGO

I WANTED A BUBBLY FEELING TO IT, SO WHAT BETTER THAN A SOFT LOOKING CLOUD? THIS WAS AN IRONIC CHOICE FOR MY 3D LOGO, BECAUSE MY ART STYLE AND ART DIRECTION DO NOT HOLD A VERY BUBBLY VIBE. I LIKE A MIX OF REALISM AND ANIME-STYLE ART.
