“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.”- Henry Ford
How to Foster Learning...
We learn in different ways, depending on abilities, learning styles, preferences and interests.
Learning takes place through inquiry: questioning, exploring, experimenting and problem solving.
Learning occurs by acquiring skills and knowledge, constructing meaning and transfer to other contexts.
Learning is active and social and best takes place through collaboration and interaction.
Learning takes place when we feel secure, valued and are able to take risks.
Learning needs to be challenging, meaningful, purposeful and engaging.
Factors affecting the Learning :
Reflective learning
Feedback
Audit of practice
Commitment
Ill health
Attitude to learning
Workload
Lack of resources
Case based discussions
Reading
Online learning
Make it Meaningful
Make connections to the lives.
Encourage interpretations that make sense to you.
Don’t hand out worksheets, don’t assign work… Create motivating learning experiences.
Encourage creativity
Make use of the opportunities to create in any way you like.
Create original expressions of the learning.
Flatten classroom walls
Don’t confine learning to the classroom. Bring the world in. Collaborate online in other places.
Demonstrate your passion
Enjoying the class, take the notes and create interest in learning. Love it and demonstrate your passion.
Interact with other educators online to fire up your enthusiasm.
Respect yourself
Don’t consider yourself inferior. Don’t expect the same (from your friends).
Recognize your talent.
Don’t imagine that any kind of standardized tests will tell you that. Listen to the conversation and value the thinking. Create interest.
Use variation
Don’t fall into the habit of doing things the same way all the time. Come up with new ways of practicing skills. Share ideas with other students/friends. Get ideas online. Get ideas from your family members . Surprise them. Plan for multiple intelligences and different learning styles.
Teach them it is OK to Fail
Realizing that some of our most enlightening learning moments come from our failures is a great way to make learning safe and get students engaged.
There are no failures in learning – every experience teaches you something. So, if you make a mistake, or the results are unexpected, you have learnt something new.
Time Management
TO UNDERSTAND THE VALUE OF A YEAR
ASK THE STUDENTS WHO FAILED IN THEIR EXAMINATION…..

TO REALISE THE VALUE OF ONE WEEK
ASK THE PERSON WHO SURVIVED A NATURAL DISASTER….
TO REALISE THE VALUE OF ONE DAY
ASK THE PERSON WHO IS DYING OF CANCER….
TO REALISE THE VALUE OF ONE HOUR
ASK THE LOVERS WHO ARE WAITING TO MEET….
TO REALISE THE VALUE OF ONE MINUTE
ASK THE PERSON WHO JUST MISSED HIS TRAIN….
TO REALISE THE VALUE OF A SECOND
ASK THE PERSON WHO JUST MISSED AN ACCIDENT….
TO REALISE THE VALUE OF A MILLISECOND
ASK THE PERSON WHO WON A SILVER MEDAL IN THE OLYMPICS….
BETWEEN TOO EARLY AND TOO LATE,
THERE IS NEVER MORE THAN A MOMENT….
YOU MIGHT DELAY, BUT TIME WON’T….
Plan each day
Say no to nonessential tasks
Evaluate how you're spending your time
Keep a diary of everything you do for three days to determine how you're spending your time. Look for time that can be used more wisely.
Get plenty of sleep, eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly
A healthy lifestyle can improve your focus and concentration, which will help improve your efficiency so that you can complete your work in less time.
Take a break when needed
Too much stress can derail your attempts at getting organized. When you need a break, take one. Take a walk. Do some quick stretches at your workstation. Take a day of vacation to rest and re-energize.
