OBJECTIVES
CONTENTS
Rifting models and the evolution of passive continental margins. Transtensional structures. Thin-skinned and thick-skinned detachment styles. Mapping patterns. Grabens and half-grabens. Uplift of the footwall block. Pre-inversion normal faults. Planar and ramp fault structures, listric faults, and rotated blocks
Selection of the best reconstruction and balancing techniques. Flexural slip and prediction reconstruction. Oblique and vertical simple shear. Rigid block reconstruction. Area-depth validation of sections. Prediction of faults through changes in bank lengths
Thickness changes in detachment zones. Horizontal to vertical displacement transitions. Draped extensional folds. Trishear models of draped folds. Sequential reconstruction of growth structures. Fractures in extensional structures
Examples from Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Buenos Aires.
TARGET AUDIENCE:Exploration and development geologists, geophysicists, engineers, and supervisors responsible for interpreting and drilling extensional structures.
METHODOLOGY:Theoretical-Practical. Includes videos, printed documents, fostering group and individual discussions and exercises.
MODALITY: In-person.
DURATION: 40 hours.
