Our North Star*:

CourageousCitizenship

Working Definition:

Courageous Citizenship is the Braver Angels Way lived out in our public lives — showing up with honesty, dignity, courage, and a commitment to working across differences. We practice and encourage Courageous Citizenship.

*Succinctly distills our Vision, Mission and Braver Way into what we want to be known for our

From Maury…

Courageous Citizenship — lived through The Braver Angels Way — aligns and directs every major area of our work. It clarifies who we are, what we stand for, and how we serve the country. This North Star becomes the standard that informs how we design programs, shape the Braver Angels experience, choose partners, communicate our message, engage volunteers, measure impact, lead internally, innovate offerings, allocate resources, and show up in public life.

Can act as a Tool for Decision-Making

Our Vision:

We envision an America where courageous citizenship is the honored norm, renewing civic culture and building trust across political differences.

12

Our Mission:

We inspire and equip Americans to practice courageous citizenship across political differences through skill building, convening, and collaborative action.

Where Does Citizen Led Solutions (CLS) Fit?

  • CLS is an Initiative
    • i.e. : Citizens Commission on Immigration; Braver Network, etc.
  • Supports the “Convening” and “Collaborative Action” in our Mission Statement
  • It is not the “Next Step” for Alliances
    • No requirement for Alliance involvement
  • It is for interested Alliances who want to pursue this aspect of Courageous Citizenship in their communities

Transformational WorkstreamsThey continue to evolve

  • How are the composed?
    • Composed of a diverse set of volunteers & staff with external expertise as needed
  • How will they work?
    • Will vary some by workstream, all will act as the lead and focal point for collecting & analyzing information and providing recommendations in their area of focus.
  • When do they start…and end?
    • Staggered. Teams will self-manage as they define priorities and move forward expeditiously.
  • How can I make my voice heard?
    • This will vary by work stream, but the spirit of co-creation is very much alive and it is expected the workstreams will be seeking much input.
    • If you have particular interest in a workstream, please make Rose Lisk aware rose@braverangels.org
  • How will we be keep updated on progress?
    • A Dashboard will be created and shared with Field Leaders

Workstream Zoom: Alliances

  • Led by:
    • David Eisner, Special Advisor to the CEO & Alliance Co-Chair
    • Wendi Dressen, Dir. Of Volunteer Engagement
  • From the Newsletter:

Over the next few months, the TWS team will engage deeply with Alliance leaders and volunteers through surveys, focus groups, interviews, and data reviews. Building on what we’ve learned from years of on-the-ground experience, together we’ll:

    • Define what success looks like for Alliances and the broader network.
    • Identify the supports and resources that matter most.
    • Clarify how national and state structures can better serve local leaders.
    • Design clear pathways for Alliance growth, sustainability, and impact.

How About Field Leaders?

Coming: Rapid Development Team focused on Change & Communication

For Today:

What is my role in all this change?

What is important for me to be doing – and not doing?

Where can I go for help?

21 of 23

Key Word: Empowerment

#1 Priority: As a Leader within Braver Angels you are empowered to deliver on the Mission, in keeping with BA’s goals and values. Keep doing that! What you have and are doing.

#2 Priority: As we begin to live into our new Vision and Mission you play an important role in spreading the word and championing them. As soon as possible in your sphere of responsibility, share our new Vision and Mission. There is a TOOL KIT that has been created to help you have an engaging discussion. Your feedback is very much needed.

#3 Priority: Keep abreast of new things happening in Braver Angels, and where you see your territory or Alliance has interest (e.g. Citizen Led Solutions) pursue them. If they do not fit into your plans, do not pursue.

#4 Priority: You will likely be solicited by one or more workstreams for support. Please prioritize and support as you can, in light of your other responsibilities.

As a Field Leader, how should I prioritize my efforts and those I lead and support:
