This is my 13th year teaching 3rd grade! I graduated from BYU.

I was widowed and married a widower last November. We have a blended family of nine children and ten grandchildren. Our grandchildren range in age from 16 years old to 3 weeks old. I enjoy daily walks along the canyon rim, attending theater productions, spending time with family, and traveling!

We have five children in eastern Idaho, and one each in Utah, Burley, Texas, and Oregon. We spend lots of weekends visiting them and hosting at our home.

My husband, Scott, is a part owner of an IT company.

I love to get students excited about reading! We do a read aloud and D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and Read) a few times a week.

I adore my students. I strive to help them all be excited about coming to school and we love to celebrate accomplishments!

Clip chart - Every student starts the day on “Ready to Learn”. After earning 5 “Rockin’ Raptors”, the top of our clip chart, a student gets a “Caught Being Good” and gets to choose a reward such as sitting in the disc chair for the afternoon, a coupon to a local restaurant, eating lunch with a friend from another classroom, or Show and Tell.

Marble Jar - The class earns marbles when the whole class is working on task, when partner work is going well, when we’re quiet in the hallway quietly, respectful to subs, etc. When the jar is full the class votes on a reward! Examples include Flashlight Reading, Extra Recess, Show and Tell, and Board Games. We have already earned two!

Every quarter your student will have a goal to meet. Meeting this goal will earn a reward of a candy bar. To earn AR points they will read a book and then take a short (usually around 10 questions) test about that book. They must get an 80% or higher to earn any amount of points. If they get a 100%, they will earn the full amount of points the book is worth. The book’s worth depends on the grade level and vocabulary in the book. Most books are .50 - 1.0. Donations of nut-free candy bars are always appreciated. Please encourage your child to read at home. I try to give time for kids to read, but reading at home helps them finish books.
