Is Dual Enrollment right for my student?

Considerations:

  • Is your student self motivated?
  • How much academic help/support does your student need?
  • Dual Enrollment classes can potentially affect HOPE Eligibility
  • Is your student comfortable with emailing professors and communicating through message boards?

Grades and Transcripts

  • Partnering colleges report letter grades
    • Ex: if you receive an “A” from UNG, this is reported on your OCHS transcript as a 95.

  • Check your email daily
  • Meet with your Dual Enrollment Advisor
  • Talk to your OCHS counselors about classes you are considering.
  • Double check class times and logistics; students must be enrolled in 4 classes between OCHS and the college each semester; 8 total for the school year.

Last Minute Thoughts

Research options, check to see if classes will transfer to the school(s) your student is interested in attending.

Ensure that logistics of the schedule will work for your student. Keep in mind that the OCHS bell schedule takes precedence over the college’s schedule.

Before deciding to dual enroll, make sure your student is academically and emotionally prepared for the challenge of college classes.
