He is called Carl the Complainer because he complains a lot.
The town park closes at 5 P.M.
Carl and Dale start a petition to keep the park open later.
A petition is a written document that people sign to change something.
Carl’s parents are the first people to sign the petition.
The neighbors do not sign the petition.
The friends brainstorm around Dale’s kitchen table on how to get more signatures.
They go to the park with treats and signs to get more signatures.
Mr. Henry helps the friends end up with 108 names/signatures on the petition.
They go to the town council to present their petition and they get their petition passed.
Story Summary (RWN p. 403)
Carl and Dale were unhappy. They wanted to play at the park, but it was closed. The park closed at 5 P.M.. “We should try to have the park stay open later,” Dale said. he learned about petitions on the Internet. Carl and Dale started a petition. They asked neighbors to sign it, and got 108 signatures! The city council read the petition and passed a new rule. now the park stays open later.
