Agenda and Newsletter

The AGENDA will be a useful tool for your child this year.

  • It can be found on our website, in the Google Classroom, and the bottom of each weekly email.
  • It has all the upcoming test/ quiz dates, the daily homework, and items to study.
  • On the side, we have linked resources including curriculum material (in case items are left at school or your child is absent).

The NEWSLETTER is linked at the top of the Agenda, but can also be found on our website.

  • The newsletter has important information for the week including: birthdays, word lists, test dates, and important dates coming up.

Math Rotation

All Lower School students started Math Rotation. Students were placed into their current math class based on several assessment results.

There is one advanced group and the other two are mixed. All classes are using the same curriculum (Eureka Math Squared), but the classes may be paced differently or lessons modified depending on the groups needs.

Packets

  • Students receive packets

for history, science, and literature.

Many of the packet sections in Science/ History, we complete together.

  • It is important to note that while packets will include majority of the test information, test questions can also be from additional projects and activities completed by students.

Tests

  • Math– quizzes will be completed after to 2-6 lessons
    • At the end of a Module, there will be a TEST
    • Work MUST BE shown for credit
    • Students can only retake math quizzes with a parent signature

  • Spelling and Vocabulary- The same list is used for 2 weeks. The first week, students will be testing on spelling, and the second week, students will be tested on vocabulary.

  • History, Science, Literature, and Grammar– quizzes will be given after topics are covered.
    • At the end of the unit there will be a TEST

  • Recitations- The first recitation will be due the first half of the quarter, while the second recitation is due at the end of the quarter.

Retakes?

  • If your child receives below a 70% on a test or math quiz, they will be able to retake it (besides spelling). Students will not be able to retake quizzes from other subjects

  • They will need a parent signature on the test, and will retake the test or math quiz within ONE WEEK of receiving their graded test.

  • Please Note: Students will NOT be able to receive a new score above 70%.

Homework

Expectations: Students are expected to review their agenda each and everyday. Homework is unfinished classwork, studying, and projects.

Due dates: Homework will be due the following day in the beginning of class. If your child is consistently not completing their homework, you will be emailed. Their consequence may be losing their break to complete the work.

Late work: No late work will be accepted. If your child is unable to complete an assignment by the due date due to an emergency or illness, please contact your teacher to let her know.

Extra credit policy: Unfortunately, we can not provide extra credit opportunities for your child. Please ensure that they are completing their work on time, to the best of their ability.

Absences

  • If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to find out what work needs to be made-up or completed upon their return. They can use the online daily agenda to find their missing work.

  • Students will be given 1 day (for each day they were absent) to complete their missing assignments. Test/ quizzes will be taken during an AT Time when they return to school.

  • If a student is absent on the day a long-term project is due, the project is still due that day. Parents may bring the project to school for the absent student.

  • All absent work that has not been turned in will be indicated on Aeries.

Work Expectations

  • Cursive writing will be required on some assignments

for students who have been taught cursive at TPS. Students who are learning cursive will be required to write in cursive starting the 3rd quarter.

  • Answers must be written in complete sentences for full credit.

  • Math- students must show all work for full credit

  • Spelling- if a word bank is included for an assignment or test, all words must be spelled correctly in every subject.

  • Heading- students must head their papers correctly on each

and every assignment or points will be deducted.

  • Neatness counts on all work. If work is illegible, the student will likely have to redo the assignment.

Assemblies

  • Criteria
    • Perfect Attendance: No days missed (Independent Study counts as absent)
    • Honor Roll: All As AND Bs for the quarter
    • Dean’s List: All As for the quarter
    • Virtue Awards: Fortitude, Justice, Temperance, Prudence

*PE and Music will now be using an A-F grading scale which will count towards academic awards.

  • Notification: If your child is to receive an award, you will be notified in advance.

  • Note: Even if your child is not getting an award, please come and join us for your child’s performance. Assembly attire required.

Field Trips

5th grade will be attending SeaWorld again this year!

Please note: The best fundraiser to earn money for Seaworld will be Butterbraids. We start selling mid-October.

Have Questions

  • Try to find the answer on the class

website or in the weekly emails.

  • If you can not find the answer, email the teacher.

  • Remember! Email is the best form of communication. We check our emails on a daily basis and will respond within 24 hours.

  • If you are interested in scheduling a conference, please do so via email and describe the nature of what you would like to discuss.

How to Support

  • Check your child’s Agenda daily
  • Monitor the newsletter and the agenda for project and test date notifications. Help your child manage and plan out their study/work time with these dates in mind.

  • Review your child’s Spelling and Vocabulary words with them nightly.

  • If your child does not have their multiplication facts memorized, please work on these with them.

  • Ensure that your child has pre-packed all of the appropriate assignments and supplies for the following school day.

  • Remember to simply scan over the general accuracy and completeness of your child’s work.
