Wake Up!

You are walking through the park when you come upon a strange individual. This person is wearing a long, flowing robe and a tall, pointed hat. They are carrying a wooden staff and a large book that appears to be covered in blinking eyeballs. You want to run, but you are frozen in place. Suddenly, the being speaks:

“I am King Gizzard the Lizard Wizard. Please choose a power.”

The book of spells opens and you see two powers on the page. Choose one and explain why you’ve chosen it. How would you use this power? Sound off in the chat!

Option 1: You have the power to control water. You can move water, freeze it, boil it, or vaporize it. You can use water to move objects twice your size.

Option 2: You have the power to control the wind. You can create a powerful gust or a slow breeze. You can use wind to move objects twice your size.

Writing Sample

You have 60 minutes to plan and write your own “This I Believe” essay.

  • This assignment will help me get to know each of you as writers, which will be important for helping me plan peer review groups and project groups for this course.

  • This assignment will not be graded, but it will count as a homework assignment (more info on that later).

  • You must complete this work in a Google Doc, in your personal folder, in the Class Drive.

  • If you finish early, please don’t leave the meeting.
