Caregiver University

Design Team

- New way of engaging caregivers of color within CPSD through services and programming that reflect the hopes and needs of this community.

- The Design Team will meet for 5x 2-hr sessions (Apr. 26-May 28)

Caregiver Advocate

Program

- A support network between caregivers of color within CPSD to increase resource access and advocacy support and skills to champion their students.

- Advocates will attend 8hrs training over 2 weekends in May.

Participants will receive a stipend for their time and valuable expertise

Some other ideas for CFAD from participant comments:

  • Asian American representation in both academic curriculum (history) as well as cultural activities.
  • Discussion of gender identity/parenting roles within the Asian community.
  • A rigorous conversation about where Asian-Americans fit in the current examination of race in America.
  • Rallying support for specific initiatives, e.g. inclusion of Lunar New Year on the district calendar; suggestion for books featuring strong Asian American characters to be included in school curriculum, etc.
  • Dismantling the model minority group, building solidarity within AAPI community, building cross-racial solidarity.

  • Work with CPSD curriculum dept. to curate resources for families and schools.
