Language Objectives for Today’s learning:

I can create a language objective using a content objective, menu of scaffolds and the colorin colorado chart.

I can differentiate supports and language functions in language objectives for different learner levels using technology as a platform and the colorin colorado chart.

Why language objectives?

Language objectives articulate for learners the language and content skills they need to master and what supports they can access to help them.

It is also beneficial for educators to identify what to expect from language learners at each level and the level of supports they will need to be successful. It can help the teacher identify what supports best fit what we are asking students to do with language.

  2. Discuss the language that is required to accomplish the task
    1. Use the Colorin Colorado table as a support
  3. Determine a Language Objective that includes the three parts of a language objective:

I can (Function)+(Content) using (Support/Scaffold).

    • WHAT function students will do with language
    • The CONTENT STEM
    • The Supports

Personalizing Language Objectives

Why?

When we write language objectives for the whole class we are writing to the majority.

It is also important to think about what additional supports specific students might need to be successful

and/or

what supports need to be taken away for specific students to demonstrate mastery.

Using technology as a platform to differentiate

How?

Think about a group of your students who need more or less support than your previous language objective offers.

Modify your current support to meet their needs (add more supports, take away the current support and add a lesser support).

Using a technology platform of choice determine how you would share their personalized language objective with them.

Apple Classroom

Send individual students or small groups of students alternative assignments/language objectives, while having screen management.

Within each one of your apple classroom classes (updated by IC) you can create smaller groups.

This allows teachers to send out different assignments, language objectives, and supports that are specific to individual learners needs.

With a partner or small group share…

-What changes did you make to personalize your language objective for the student's you thought about? Why?

-What technology platform did you use to share out their differentiated language objective? What do you like about this platform?

-How does incorporating technology as a platform to differentiate their goals benefit the student? The teacher?
