Welcome and Introduction

The Lambeth African and Caribbean Healthy Weight Programme is being developed to support Black people in Lambeth, and so it is important for us to get your views on several areas of the programme.

Programme

  • 12 weeks
  • One hourly sessions (cooking sessions 1hr 30mins)
  • Workbook and resources, including an app to monitor progress
  • Healthy eating and cooking
  • Physical activity
  • Lifestyle/Behaviour change
  • Monitoring and Tracking

Aim of focus group

To get your thoughts on various aspects of the programme by discussing and asking you to complete polls or respond via the chat. We want you to tell us what you want to see on the programme – content, design, language, tone, sessions etc.

This information will be used to design the workbook and help shape specific areas of the programme.

Workbook: Welcome and Introduction

The African and Caribbean Healthy Weight Programme seeks to empower its members to make choices that support long term health whilst continuing to enjoy traditional food and customs.

This is a 12-week programme that includes nutrition, behaviour change education and physical activity. This booklet is designed to be used in addition to attending the weekly classes. It should also be a reference guide beyond the 12 weeks as you continue your healthy weight journey.

The African and Caribbean Healthy Weight programme is designed to achieve the following:

  • Build knowledge of what a healthy diet and lifestyle looks like
  • Help to understand causes of weight gain and regain control
  • Develop skills in making positive behaviour changes
  • Support goal setting
  • Build confidence to problem solve and cope with setbacks.

Behaviour/Lifestyle

  • Behaviour and lifestyle are elements that have been included in the programme and workbook to help support long-term health. This section contains information, guidance and tips relating to:

  • Emotional eating – including triggers
