IN-PERSON/VIRTUAL OPTION

The following planned steps and recommendations will provide the appropriate social distancing under CDC guidelines:

  • Student schedules will be developed using the first letter of the student(s) last name.
  • Letters A-L will attend two (2) days in-person, every Monday and Tuesday.
  • All students will be virtual every Wednesday.
  • Letters M-Z will attend two (2) days in-person, every Thursday and Friday.
  • All students will receive four (4) hours of instruction daily.

ALL VIRTUAL OPTION

  • All virtual students will receive the same four (4) hours of instruction daily as the in-person/virtual students.

  • Attendance will be taken daily. Parents should make sure that student(s) readily participate in their virtual instruction.

  • Google Classroom Platform will be used for the virtual learning.

  • All students will have the opportunity to access extra help virtually daily between the hours of 12:30 โ€“ 1:30 p.m.

  • Assessments will be provided online.

SAFETY STEPS

  • Safety continues to be our number one concern. We cannot sacrifice the safety and health of anyone in our school community. We will open our schools providing the safest environment possible for our students and staff making every effort to remain open.
  • Daily cleaning will take place throughout the buildings with high touch areas cleaned numerous times throughout the day.
  • We ask parents to work with their student(s) to practice the following before the start of school:

1. Wash hands throughout the day

2. Wear a mask

3. Proper social distancing

SAFETY STEPS

  • Classrooms will be equipped with disinfectant wipes, sanitizer, and extra masks. Students will be required to sanitize their hands upon entry into the classroom.

  • Requests by students to use the restroom will be coordinated to ensure that social distancing is maintained.

  • Concerns should be reported to guidance counselors, case managers and assistant principals.

MASK WEARING

  • Students and staff will be required to wear masks inside during the school day.

  • Teachers and support staff will work with the students to ensure that masks are worn properly. Parents can help by practicing with students now before the start of school.

  • Breaks will be provided during the day for students to remove masks safely.

  • Accommodations will be made for those students as required via their Individualized Health Plan, 504 Plan and IEP.

IN-PERSON LEARNING๏ฟฝHIGH SCHOOL/MIDDLE SCHOOL

  • Students will have four (4) classes.

  • Breakfast will be delivered to each class for consumption for students enrolled in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program (FNS) or to those students that have ordered breakfast on the Central APP. Breakfast/Lunch for FNS students will be sent home for virtual day.

  • Lockers will not be used.

  • Hallways will be one-way throughout the building with limits on the number of students allowed to use bathrooms at one time.

  • Hand washing and sanitizing breaks will be incorporated throughout the day.

  • Lunches will be delivered to FNS students and those who order lunch on the Central APP at the end of the day for students to take home. Lunch will not be eaten in school.

VIRTUAL LEARNING๏ฟฝHIGH SCHOOL/MIDDLE SCHOOL

  • The District will provide Chromebooks to all students that do not have access to their own technology as per the recommendation from DOE and Governor Murphy.
  • Students will follow the same schedule and receive the same minutes of instruction as provided through in-person learning.
  • Virtual learning will take place every day same as the in school, in-person instruction using the same curriculum as the in-person instruction.
  • Attendance will be taken daily.
  • Students with IEP, 504 Plans, ELL will continue to receive services. Instruction will be both live and recorded by the teacher.
  • Whole class instruction as well as small group instruction.
  • Assessments will be provided online.

SPECIAL EDUCATION ๏ฟฝSELF-CONTAINED

Special Education student(s) in Self-Contained classes will attend in-person instruction five (5) days a week. This applies to student(s) in the following classes:

  • Middle School โ€“ Mrs. Frulioโ€™s and Mrs. Johnstonโ€™s classes.

  • High School โ€“ Mrs. Smithโ€™s, Mrs. Ambrosioโ€™s and Mrs. Fordโ€™s classes.

  • Students will receive the same four (4) hours of daily instruction as regular education students.

  • An all virtual option will also be provided for those student(s) whose parents have chosen the all virtual learning.

SPECIAL EDUCATION๏ฟฝALL VIRTUAL

  • Students with IEP, 504 Plans, ELL will continue to receive services.

  • Instruction will be a mix of live and recorded instruction by the teacher.

  • Assessments will be provided online.

  • All students that need extra help with classes will have the opportunity to access that help virtually every day between the hours of 12:30 โ€“ 1:30 p.m. for HS and 1:30 p.m. โ€“ 2:30 p.m. for MS.

VOCATIONAL SCHOOL๏ฟฝMATES/PAA

  • Vocational, MATES, and PAA students will attend in-person five (5) days a week using the โ€œAโ€ and โ€œBโ€ day schedule with transportation provided.

  • On the day a student is on virtual schedule, the student will return home after vocational school is dismissed.

  • On the day a student is on the in-person schedule, the student will attend classes either before or after vocational school with transportation provided.

  • An all virtual option will also be available for those student(s) whose parents wish to choose all virtual learning through the Ocean County Vocational Technical School District (OCVTS) at 732-240-6414.

4 BY 4 BLOCK SCHEDULE

  • For the first 90 days, students will take the same four (4) academic classes. The following 90 days, students will switch to four (4) new classes.

  • Students will be less stressed by focusing on four (4) classes rather than their full eight (8) class schedule that took place last spring.

  • Teachers have only 75 students which will allow more individualized academic instruction, ESL, better rapport, and more time for reflection.

  • The district has constructed a three-week training program for teachers focusing on virtual instruction.

  • Each week, teachers participate in a comprehensive list of workshops to enhance and improve virtual education instruction opportunities.

  • Should the district go on a full virtual schedule, our educators will be prepared for the challenge.

ATTENDANCE

An attendance committee was formed to create an attendance policy to ensure students are logging in and participating in their daily instruction. The following are their recommendations and procedures:

  1. All students will be required to report to class whether in-person or virtually.
  2. Attendance will be taken in homeroom for in-person students and virtual students will sign in online to all of their classes. Homeroom is the studentโ€™s 1st period class.
  3. Students are responsible and will be accountable for daily participation in all classes.

SURVEY

Parents will be provided with a survey form on both the parent portal and district website. The survey needs to be completed no later than August 14, 2020.

  • Survey is required in writing as per the NJ State guidelines.

  • In-Person option will be a combination of in-person/virtual instruction every other day (Refer to HS/MS schedules).

  • Parentsโ€™ choices are for a full marking period. No changes can be made until the next marking period.

  • A full virtual option waives all daily transportation (waiver form must be filled out).

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • We need to work together. Parents/guardians are the first line of defense.

  • Please screen your child each morning before school. If your child does not feel well and/or is sick for any reason, please keep your child home.

  • If your child has a temperature of 100 degrees or more, he/she must remain home for a minimum of 72 hours.

  • If a student is suspected to have symptoms of COVID-19 while in school, he/she will remain in a supervised isolation space until picked up by parent/guardian.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

For the benefit of both students and staff, the following protocols and measures will be instituted:

  • UV machines have the ability to sanitize a classroom in 10 minutes. The machines will be rotated room to room.
  • UV lights will be added to classrooms as they come available.
  • PPE supplies including masks, disinfectant wipes, and hand sanitizer are available for each classroom and throughout the buildings. Face shields may be available to students that have a medical need.
  • One way traffic in all hallways.
  • Social distancing practices throughout the buildings.
  • Lunch will be delivered to students for their consumption at home.

HEALTH AND SAFETY๏ฟฝTRANSPORTATION

  • Students and staff must wear masks at all times while on the bus.
  • Drivers will wear face shields and have a divider between them and the students.
  • Buses will be fully disinfected every night โ€“ wiped down and fully sprayed.
  • All high contact areas (handrails, seats, etc.) will be re-disinfected in the a.m. and p.m.
  • Bus windows will remain open unless weather doesnโ€™t permit.
  • We establish seating charts to help streamline loading and dismissal. At all times, students will be required to stay in their assigned seats.
  • Parents should reinforce to their student(s) the importance of wearing a mask and staying in their assigned seats while on the bus.
