Reading

Quarterly Reading Genre:

  • 1st Quarter: Realistic Fiction
  • 2nd Quarter: Fantasy/ Mystery
  • 3rd Quarter: Historical Fiction
  • 4th Quarter: Non-Fiction

Students are graded on reading two chapter books a quarter on their own. All students will be assigned a specific genre chapter book and a chapter book of their choice. We will also read in class another chapter book of specific assigned genre. There will be some quarters that we read an additional chapter book in class if we are ahead of schedule. Normally, this would be a Christmas book and a fun book at the end of the year. Student will be expected to write in their reading journals daily and answer comprehension questions periodically. Each quarter Students will write a detailed book report about the book we read in class and do a book review on choice chapter books.

Writing

Quarterly Writing Genre: Every quarter students will write an informative book report of the genre assigned that quarter/

1st Quarter:

  • Personal Narrative about summer
  • Letter to my teacher
  • Descriptive Fall Essay/ Candy Essay
  • Realistic Fiction Book Report Essay

2nd Quarter:

  • Letter to Parents
  • Veterans Letter
  • Argumentative / Persuasive: Current Events
  • Descriptive/ Personal Narrative: Christmas card Writing
  • Research Christmas around the World
  • Fictional Fantasy Book Report

3rd Quarter:

  • Opinion/ Argumentative/ Persuasive:
  • Personal Narrative/ Descriptive: Winter
  • Informational: Presidents/ Civil Rights
  • Historical Book Report

4th Quarter:

  • Research:
  • Non-Fiction Book Report
  • Math:

Each week we will be learning new math concepts as well as continuing to build on existing math skill.s.

Take Home Folders:

Students will have a take home folder mid quarter and quarter. This folder will go home on Tuesday and it should be signed by a parent. If the student brings the folder back signed they will get a fruit snack or a homework pass.
