The experience of making ended up being more significant

Farmwork is grounded in knowledge built on experiences lived through the body

as farmworkers, we are not often afforded the opportunity for slowness, creativity, contemplation at work

Thinking through the process of making, trying out different ideas, figuring out what makes them work - these feelings felt like the opposite of my experience of those two seasons

I chose to use old, used and broken materials to reference the toll that climate change (and farm work in general) takes on the bodies of farmworkers, the way we are often treated as tools or factors of production that can be replaced when they wear out

I decided to call this piece Red Garden, in honor of all farmworkers who fight for the time and space to relate to land on our own terms, even with so much working against us.

to bring us together into one whole picture, to hopefully point out our inherent solidarity in the face of this existential disaster and the fact that we have to support each other the way the warp does the weft
