1 Peter 3:8–16 (NASB95)

8To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit;

9not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing.

10For,

“The one who desires life, to love and see good days, Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit. 11“He must turn away from evil and do good; He must seek

peace and pursue it. 12“For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, And His ears

attend to their prayer, But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

13Who is there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good?

14But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed.

And do not fear their intimidation, and do not be troubled,

15but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;

16and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.

Psalm 34

Psalm 34:7–19 (NASB95)

7The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, And rescues them.

8O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!

9O fear the Lord, you His saints; For to those who fear Him there is no want.

10The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; But they who seek the Lord shall not be in want of any good thing.

11Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

12Who is the man who desires life And loves length of days that he may see good?

13Keep your tongue from evil And your lips from speaking deceit.

14Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.

15The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous And His ears are open to their cry.

16The face of the Lord is against evildoers, To cut off the memory of them from the earth.

17The righteous cry, and the Lord hears And delivers them out of all their troubles.

18The Lord is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit.

19Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.

20He keeps all his bones, Not one of them is broken.

Isaiah 8

Isaiah 8:10–13 (NASB95)

10“Devise a plan, but it will be thwarted; State a proposal, but it will not stand, For God is with us.”

11For thus the Lord spoke to me with mighty power and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,

12“You are not to say, ‘It is a conspiracy!’ In regard to all that this people call a conspiracy, And you are not to fear what they fear or be in dread of it.

13“It is the Lord of hosts whom you should regard (sanctify) as holy. And He shall be your fear, And He shall be your dread.
