  • Set aside time to confer with each student weekly.

  • One-on-one is best.
  • Consider online collaboration.

  • Different students will need different levels of support
    • Teacher can play an active role, making very specific recommendations.

Peer Revising / Editing can be very powerful.

Checklists are valuable tools in guiding peer collaboration.

  • One person role-plays the student for Sample 1, then
  • One person role-plays the student for Sample 2.

Celebrating:

When students are finished with a piece, give them a platform to celebrate. Here are a couple ideas:

Celebration:

  • Share your books with a younger grade!
  • Bind and publish a class book!
  • Have a Fair/Wax Museum where students can present!
  • Have students present their work at PTCs!
  • Send persuasive work to a real, live recipient!
  • Let their persuasive letters change the class/school.
  • Take home a class book.
  • Throw a real party to celebrate.
  • Put them on a class website.
  • Have a Writer of the Week.
  • Open Mic / Reader’s Theater
